Who's the one?

Since it's the season for making an idiot of myself, I shall mix metaphors and risk putting my head above the parapet again to have it blown away.

"I've not read the book ..." so I'm wondering if someone out there in 'Cockland can deal with the Urban Myth that began circulating at the time "Folkjokeopus" was originally released:

at whom, exactly, is "She's the One" aimed?

When I was young and spotty and rushed excitedly home to play my (mono) version (Liberty label) on my Dansette-equivalent, I stopped trying to decipher all the clever bits scribbled on the cover and actually (despite what I've said elsewhere about H d'O) listened to the words of this great track, because my Good and Very Wise Friend Paul had assured me that it was Autobigraphical, that the "Fool if you can let her go" is Roy himself, and that "the one who drops the kids and cleans the john" is Nick(y)'s mother.

I lived happily with that story for years, and I think it makes the song superb rather than just great. But then siren voices started whispering "Al Stewart", and I've wondered ever since.

Contextually, the Roy interpretation works - "she weighed up the gains and the losses and gave me the shove" - but I no longer have the certainty of youth.

    Can anybody help?

Fearing the third light, I shall now return to my trench and await a barrage, howsoever small.

Well, the lyrics are accompanied by a photo of Roy, Mocy and Nick.

Roy says in the "RH Bible" that

I was going to ignore that and hope it went away, Shaun, but... *eye roll*

After reading the lyrics again on t'interweb (my copy of 'the book' is in storage while our flat is on the market!), I would guess your original interpretation was pretty accurate, Steve...

Then again I am an old romantic :blushing:

I take it you're a fan then Paula :D I developed this contempt for Robbie when I got brainwashed from her indoors, she had a 3 month or so spell of constantly battering my ear drums with his "music" At least I use headphones to listen to Zappa & Harper, and hopefully reduce any anticipated domestics :m9:

Funnily enough, I don't mind some of Robbie's music (it's him wot annoys the snot out of me now  ) but I just have no idea what he has to do with this thread, except a tenuous song name connection and Andi's love of YouTube embedding :blushing:

Just throwing seeds down to the pigeons out there ...at least it got a response which I didn't expect!

Roy and Robbies entitled songs are funny enough both extreme favs of my ex's. "She's the one who throws her pants at you...." = Tom Jones youtube next? Nah I wouldn't dare invite the wrath of above!

A long-forgotten post, resurrected after all this time - I can excuse most things, but Robbie Williams? Pur-lease.

Oh, I like Rob! He's got lovely eyes, Shaun.:blushing: Shame he turned into a tattoo saddo. She's The One is good, but I probably like Come Undone the most. When he sings 'they're selling razor blades and mirrors on the street' you know he's been there with Gianni Luca.
