Third attempt at answering this... My first disappeared into the ether when I was accidentally logged off ...

According to my iPod - top 11:

All Possibilities - Badly Drawn Boy - not one of my favorites
I Saw a Bird Fly Away - Dar Williams

Reasonably representative of my tastes ...

  4. Travellerman

Travellerman Aye lad, I knew you had it in you

How are you guys getting different lists for your ipod and iTunes? I was under the impression that the one list (taken from iTunes) covered both as it was updated every time you connected?

..or have I just set things up differently on my iTunes?

I have a LastFM account which allows me to amalgamate all my Computers which I use to play music.

So first up for the last 7 Days pop pickers we get...

    Edwyn Collins
    Julie Fowlis
    Ian Dury
    Orange Juice
    Willy Mason
    Pink Floyd
    Farlan Hardy
    The Standells

and then for all time, well since I subscribed to LastFM that is

    Roy Harper
    Nick Harper
    Led Zeppelin
    Fairport Convention
    The Bonzo Dog Band
    Steve Lawson
    Davy Graham
    The Stone Roses
    Richard Thompson

I have the same last.fm setup. My all-time favourite artists list (after stripping out podcasts):

    Van der Graaf Generator
    Jethro Tull
    Peter Hammill
    Roy Harper
    Pink Floyd
    King Crimson
    Led Zeppelin
    Porcupine Tree
    Show of Hands
    Richard Thompson
    Fairport Convention
    The Beatles

    ... and the top tracks:

Pink Floyd – Obscured by Clouds
Van der Graaf Generator – Scorched Earth
Van der Graaf Generator – Masks
Van der Graaf Generator – Nutter Alert
Van der Graaf Generator – The Sleepwalkers
Van der Graaf Generator – Every Bloody Emperor
    King Crimson – Easy Money
Van der Graaf Generator – Wondering
Van der Graaf Generator – Killer
Van der Graaf Generator – Refugees
Roy Harper – Me and My Woman
    King Crimson – Exiles
Van der Graaf Generator – The Undercover Man
Van der Graaf Generator – Childlike Faith in Childhood's End

This doesn't include any CDs played on the "real" hifi of course. I think much more Roy stuff would have appeared if that were the case, but as you can tell I often listen to My and My Woman for a quick blast of sanity if work is bad.

Paul if you use iScrobbler instead of LastFM's app it allows you to ignore iTunes subscribed Podcats.

iScrobbler also has the benefit that when used with a PC it allows each user account to login to each users LastFM account whereas the LastFM app ignores who's user account the PC is looged into and submits other users info.

In my case this meant what my son listens to which is mostly Placebo, Mettalica and Megadeath was showing up in my LastFM account, which was a tad disconcerting :) This problem doesn't effect Mac users as the OS handles multiple user accounts like you would expect unlike Vista.
  8. wobbly bob

wobbly bob I've got a zappy little nappy

not really sure... one mac had the same tracks as the ipod, and the other had completely different stuff on. the updating thing might be optional, though, which might explain it..
  9. Bob Jacobs

Bob Jacobs Ride away in style

I'm not sure either, except that I don't synchronise automatically and I do use both independently to play music. A far more representative sample of my listening would be provided if my car CD player identified and counted the tracks played on it: usually compilations either by myself or Mr Bill, occasionally sops to SWMBO (eg Katherine Jenkins and Rhydian).

  10. Steve_Pitts

    Steve_Pitts I've got a zappy little nappy

Hmmm, well I don't have a portable music player, and like Bob my 'musical tastes' would probably better be represented by what passes through the car CD player, but my Winamp top 15 (the last six are all tied in terms of number of plays):

    Adverts - Bombsite Boy
    XTC - Dear God
XTC - Ballet For a Rainy Day
Pink Floyd - Any Colour You Like
Beach Boys, The - Fall Breaks And Back To Winter
    XTC - That Wave
    XTC - Millions
Henley, Don - A Month of Sundays
    Joni Mitchell - Little Green
XTC - Here Comes President Kill Again
Zutons, The - Moons And Horror Shows
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Won't Last Long
Drake, Nick - Time Of No Reply
    Eurythmics - Regrets
Spandau Ballet - She Loved Like Diamond

Bear in mind, however, that Winamp spends a lot of time either on Shuffle against the full list of tracks (primarily ripped from CDs) or a more limited set of 'family friendly' tracks and 'Bombsite Boy' tops the list because it is the first track in the 'all tracks' playlist and has been played on numerous occasions when I've forgotten to select Shuffle!!

Due to 'family living space' constraints the list is not as representative as it might be, and no Roy because my wife won't listen to anything other than 'The Green Man' :(
  11. rusinurbe

rusinurbe I've got a zappy little nappy

My top ten most played tunes on my Ipod are:

    Island Jam - David Gilmour - 15
Can't Find My Way Home (electric version (radio edit))- Steve Winwood (Blind Faith) - 11
    Symphonia Molto Colori A Manico-Depressivo Maximali-A Movement In Polka-Dot Plaid - P. Miles Bryson -10
Dirt - Penguin Cafe Orchestra -10
Curly (Alternate Mix) - The Move - 9
    The Ever-Masculine Gouache Gingham - P. Miles Bryson -9
Roll With It - Steve Winwood - 9
    Atlas - Battles -8
Stupid Dream - Porcupine Tree -8
The Aerospaceage Inferno - Robert Calvert -8

Probably reflective of how long i have had some of this on my Ipod as anything else. I used to shuffle tracks but now tend to shuffle albums on it. so maybe at some time a whole album would be in the top ten most listend to.
