Theremins-a-go-go

Starting with the tenuous links...

1. Roy played with Jimmy Page, who plays theremin on "Whole Lotta Love".

2. Nick's song "There is Magic In this World" features what sounds like a theremin (but is possibly just a well executed slide guitar)

With that in mind, and for general information for the musically inclined (or their friends) out there:-

Theremin

Mick

I'd never heard of the theremin till a couple of weeks ago, when, having seen Hazmat Modine at the Terra Blues Club in New York, I bought the pianist's CD.  Rob Scwimmer is his name and the CD is billed as "Classical".  It features a track "with theremin" which is rather wonderful.  Since then, I've seen references to this instrument almost wherever I go.  I hope the event goes well.

Rob Schwimmer

Thanks, Bob - Rob Schwimmer also has a rather good CD called "Theremin Noir" which focuses on the theremin.  If it has peaked your interest you should try spellbound.purplenote.com (Spellbound Radio) - they have a weekly program of theremin music which ranges from avant-garde electronica to progressive rock via classical and lounge jazz - a pretty eclectic mix!  It goes out live on a Sunday night, but the last few shows are always available as mp3 download.

New York, by all accounts, has a pretty lively theremin scene, including the "New York Theremin Society" who put on gigs featuring groups of theremin players.

cheers

 Mick

p.s. My 'Splinter' features a theremin!
