Stormcock reissue news

I heard that Stormcock was to be reissued when I was in Clonakilty earlier this year, and I've been trying to find out more about it. Here are a few snippets to whet your appetite.

The disc will come in new packaging that will include a 20-page book as part of the case. It includes some new photos (very good ones at that) along with a new poem relating to each song and some other writings. I have seen a preview of this and it does the album justice, no doubt about it. It's going to be perfect to browse and muse upon while listening to the album. I've always said that Stormcock represents the purest distillation of Roy's art, and the new written material complements it very well.

The disc itself has been remastered. To quote the man himself, "Certain lines and certain words will not chop your ears off at high volume any more.. Bottom end is taken care of properly.. and there are one or two secrets. You may eventually spot them. It won't matter much to the general public that much, but it sure does matter to me.

The disc is now available from the Roy Harper shop and a full review can be found elsewhere on this site.

Stormcock reissue news

Thanks so much for this info. About time I get my RH collection on CD's. This gem seems like a good place to start.

Good selling job, Paul :-)

My initial thought was that I didn't need another copy of Stormcock but when I read of the musical enhancements and the extra reading material, I am converted ...

stormcock

that was my reaction too, infact i remember reading the notes  when i first bought the cd about 10 years ago and being mildly annoyed by the bit that said "there will be more notes later on a newer version" (or something to that effect) and i thought "i've just bought a brand new cd - why arent the notes on this edition?!" but i agree this new version sounds appealing. i had a similar experience with Death or Glory - the notes say that the drums on The Fourth World arent good enough and will be rerecorded soon - why not just wait til the finished product is ready?! i like the fourth world as it is/was anyway so no big deal.

Release date and format

Is there an official word on the exact date this becomes available? And will the release be on both CD and vinyl?

Hi Steve, welcome to the site. It appears to be CD-only I'm afraid. No ETA as yet, I'm sure Tracy will put it up on the orders page once it's near to release.

Well I got a copy and am thrilled with the music. My daughter on the other hand isn't and after hearing it play so often and her not liking it I bought her some Madonna tickets

A re-issue of Stormcock, digitally enhanced to replace the battered old vinyl?  Yes I'm up for it!

With Roy in charge instead of the old record company, he can make it into exactly what he wants and I will trust him to make it a better listening experience.

I've long since stopped being precious about artefacts even those like Stormcock that had such a huge effect on the music industry at the time let alone the hundreds and thousands of fans.

For me the music is the message not the sound quality and I will definitely want to buy the new release so I can hear it the way Roy would prefer it heard.
