Wow!

what a fantastic show, I just downloaded and listened to this and thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that I forgot about match of the day!

Really great to hear 'Take me into your eyes', and what an interesting interview with Nick Lane, if there can be a criticism I would have liked to have heard more about the concerts during the 'Flashes' era, but some really interesting points of discussion.

This is really good stuff Paul, many thanks and keep it coming while we await the new album!

I agree, we didn't really

I agree, we didn't really get to grips with what the 70s gigs were like. I will probably have Nick back at some point for more about this and also for some sort of Clonakilty roundup. We didn't discuss the latter, mainly because I know Nick is still very disappointed that he wasn't able to make it over this year and I didn't want to rub salt in the wound.

'Whispering' Paul Davison

Sorry to hear about the cold…mind you, could be renamed the ‘Whispering’ Paul Davison episode as it gave you a touch of the Bob Harris on the vocal department (grin). I too bowed at Princess Anne on the RAH stage, rather a surreal experience. Adam’s re-recording of the ‘Great Roy Harper’ is just the thing for the podcast music; the guitar work, vocal intonation and effects are spot on with evoking Roy’s oeuvre. The Nick Lane interview: Wow…right in from the ‘Sophisticated Beggar’ days, how wonderful. I know what you mean about Roy being a constant, though for me it only started in 1985. Must have been fantastic to’ve seen Roy at those huge gigs in the early 70’s. Yeah, ‘Challenging’ is the right word and that’s part of the reason that Roy’s had a powerful influence on the way I look at the world, and matured my independent thought, so I’m in total agreement with Nick there. With regards to samplers and downloads and the like, I find MySpace to be of enormous use for getting a feel for new music. So lovely to listen to ‘Cherishing the Lonesome’ again. Once again, looking forward to the next episode. TTFN Dave 'Thoughts are but dreams till their effects be tried'

Hey PD, they'll be after

Hey PD, they'll be after signing you up over at Radio 2 soon! So when are you going to have a Nick podcast then?! I'm sure that if you spoke to his PR people they could get you an exclusive, post-Everest, chat with the man too if you wanted.

Podcast #2

Ouch

I said on the interview that I'd cringe when I heard this and I did.

There have been a few kind comments for which I'm grateful; they spared me some embarrassment. My 'darling' son Richard, said I sounded like an old man from oop north...

It's an interesting experience being an interviewee. In my defence it was impromptu, having discussed studio/skype/landline options and deciding to go for it on the spur of the moment. I'm impressed by Paul's skills as an interviewer and converting my landline chat to something clearly audible, although I think I'd prefer to sound like a Dalek

Too much waffle and not enough about Roy's early gigs. Perhaps I can redress that sometime soon, with a post to this forum.

Ahem... Next!

Nick

Your voice

It's very difficult to listen to yourself actually. I've just about managed to stop cringing when listening back to myself when editing and mixing the podcasts and you start spotting little mannerisms you weren't aware of before. For example, I seem to say "absolutely" about 500 times during the interview, and I never knew I liked that word so much before! For what it's worth Vicky listened to it on Saturday when I was doing the final playback and said that you have quite a sexy voice!!!

I think you did very well Nick and I was grateful that we could do the interview so promptly, as I was itching to get another podcast out prior to stormcock being reissued. Thanks again.

Feedback

Paul

Congratulations on another excellent podcast - but I don't want to give you that - I want to leave feedback on the advertised number - but I don't want to have to listen to the podcast again to acquire it, not even to skip through it, as the iPod is playing the WHOLE of The Lord's Prayer as I type :-)

Could you publicise it here please for future reference?

Bob

PS do automatically subscribed downloads get counted in the stats above?

hi Bob!

The number is on the shownotes page as advertised in the main post Yes, auto downloads do count in the "downloads" counter on the page, as they all filter through that link and thus increment the stats.

Coronation Street is Great?

Fools? Hmmm...

Eeh lad, when I were a young chap, my next door neighbour who was a TV producer, took me for a visit to Granada Studios in Manchester.

I possess autographs for the entire and original Coronation Street cast.

Worth a few shillings on ebay?

(I still think the programme's cr**)

Nick

Dr_Doom_The_Optimist's picture

Yeah

I've walked the Corry cobbles too (whilst full of red wine, but that's another story).

As for those autographs, get 'em sold sir. Pretty penny certainly. I've just found out a second hand synth i got for £9 at a carboot sale is now going on eBay for £276.53 and there's 3 days left yet!

podcast 1 + 2

Dear paul

Just got time to listen to them both back to back. Fantastic! You have a wonderful radio voice & both interviews were excellent.... as were the songs / spoken bits by Roy.

I would send in an audio file for no.3 but I'm rubbish at that sort of thing unless there is  a16 year old around to do it for me.

Looking forward to #3!

Thanks
