Purely Acoustic Album

I don't know if anyone else has thought why Roy has never released a purely acoustic album. I've been listening to Folkjokeopus a lot lately, I have phases of favourite albums, this is my favourite at the moment. The track One For All is an amazing piece of Harper brilliance, then there's Blackpool, the guitar work in Same Old Rock, OMRARB the album Born In Captivity, the list is endless.

Zappa was a master at using archive solo's from his gigs and reworking them into albums. Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar, Guitar, The GUitar World According   To F.Z., Trance Fusion etc. Roy records all his gigs , imagine the matertial he could tap into from his recordings vault. Thus showcasing his amazing talent, I wonder if Roy himself has ever thought of this concept.

I for one would be interested at other Harper fans think..

I think it's a very good idea.

Do you remember the circumstances of the release of Born in Captivity? I think a lot of people at the time of the release were a bit put off by the over-produced sound of Work of Heart. Roy then found that the rough demos sold remarkably well. I think this shows that there definitely would be demand for the stripped-down RH (and I'm not talking about the Flashes cover!!).

Purely Acoustic Album

Born in Captivity was my introduction to Roy via my pal James who taped me a copy followed shortly by Stormcock and HQ also recomended by James.

At the time you couldn't buy a copy of BiC (James had managed to buy a cassette of Born in Captivity) and so I had to make do with a cassette to cassette to recording. I love the album still do and often I use it as an introduction to Roy with those who have not been enlightened. When it was released as a CD thats when I got a proper recording of it.

Hi fuzzytnth3 , my first encounter with BIC was in 1985 at the Cambridge Folk Festival,I bought it as a limited edition only available at gigs, Roy and Jimmy page were promoting Jugular at the time. I'd just discovered 2 or 3 early albums ( SB , COFGS and Folkjokeopus) So the new raw Ovation acoustic sound was a real treat, to hear the demo of work of heart in it's infancy. The volume Roy used to thrash out at gigs was phenomenal with the Ovation. Anyway I've sent Roy a message asking whether there are any plans to release  an album of pure acoustic guitar work, I'm stillwaitting to hear his thoughts on the subject... I think it would generate such a lot of exitement within the Harper community heres hoping with fingers crossed!
