Four new Roy Harper articles

pd's picture

I've just added four articles about Roy, all written by Colin Harper and published in various places. Sue Burnham got in touch with Colin to ask permission to type up one of his articles and he very graciously replied granting permission, and including additional articles for us to publish on the site. Thank you very much indeed, Colin, and to Sue of course.

The articles are:

Independent, October 1998

Errigle Inn, Belfast

Vicar Street, Dublin

Dream Society Review from Mojo

Roy and Van

Good grief - I wish I'd been there at that meeting!  And Roy CAN be a curmudgeon - or at least an arrogant sod (my least favourite memory of him is from early '75 on the HQ tour at Oxford Poly, hammeing out bad power chords on his electric guitar with one hand while giving the audience the V's with the other) but, much as I love Van Morrson's music, his interviews always make him sound like he has not just a chip on his shoulder but an entire bloody potato field.

Harpers

I've always admired Colin Harper's work  - he's a damn fine illustrator as well as a reviewer, unless I'm terminally confused, and I did Wonder If By Any Chance They Are Related?  Thanks for getting these reviews posted - it's great to see someone  "objective" being so enthusiastic about Our Man.

Colin Harper

Having checked his website it does look as if terminal confusion has set in.  Do any other aged hippies out there recall who used to do those covers for "Undercurrents" in the mid 70's? I could have sworn it was someone called Colin Harper, who seemed so hip I assumed he was related to Roy... then when someone comes along "bigging up" our man, i assume it's the same Colin Harper....
