More new music: Adriano Adewale Group

I previously mentioned in the Forum that I was going to see this group.  Last night, Mary and I saw them at The Forge in Basingstoke, a tiny auditorium nestled inside The Anvil, where a Queen Tribute Band was playing simultaneously.  The sound-proofing and "crowd" management was so effective that we'd never have known if we hadn't been told.  I've also posted most of the following in the other place:

Adriano Adewale is a versatile percussionist, accompanied by a Senegalese Kora player (Kadialy Kouyate), an Australian double bass player (Nathan Thomson) and a Brazilian woodwind player (Marcelo Andrade), each of whom apparently has his own MySpace page and own CD projects in progress.  Nathan Thomson was the one who impressed me most.  Most remarkable piece, however, was a several-minute-long tambourine solo by Adriano!  Most of the music was, loosely, world/jazz, though Adriano informed us that they were "samba" or "[something beginning with f] from Bahia, N Brazil" etc.  Most was supposely Brazilian or influenced by Angola or Mozambique (formerly fellow Portuguese colonies).  At the interval and afterwards, the group mingled with the tiny audience.  It was probably the most intimate gig I've ever been to, even though most of us were strangers to each other.  Adriano's CD is not yet available but there was a DVD featuring 6 pieces for #7.   I've yet to watch it but look forward to it with pleasure.

To find out more, visit www.adrianoadewale.co.uk or look them up on MySpace.  They're playing Tonbridge Wells soon.

I've also been listening to Mr Bill's latest Wild Ride, downloading music and buying CDs again, so look forward to my next compilation listing soon ...

You mean you visited God's own town and you didn't tell me? How is Mr Bill anyway?  ....must get back on his Wild Rides when in funds...

Yes on both counts

I don't think I need to explain why.

Bill's not very communicative at present but the Wild Ride was good.

Adriano Adewale

Just checked out this site and I see he played with Antonio Forcione - but not on the one CD I have by Antonio.  If you haven't heard him, check him out - he's an amazing guitarist. I caught abit of him live on a Radio Scotland jazz programme few years ago, playing solo acoustic.  He did an instrumental version of "I heard it through the grapevine" which sounded like John Martyn was playing it slap-guitar style!

That sounds like "something else"

Anything that sounds like John Martyn tickles my tastebuds.. anything that adds something to Heard it through the grapevine deserves investigation...  Thanks for the tip.
