Yesterday the 4th of May after 33 hours of slog at 11:03am my daughter Eilidh gave birth to a baby girl (see below). She is called Phoebe and weighs 8lbs 1 and a half ounces. Like her mother Phoebe likes sleeping... a lot.

Eilidh and Phoebe are fine, Eilidh needed no stitches but has some bruising where a Doctor tried to get a line in for an epidural which they didn't as it turned out actually need as the baby decided to move to a better location rather than being spine to spine which was causing Eilidh a lot of pain.
They will be both getting home today, which will be a great relief to Eilidh as she can't stand the food and she can't sleep as she keeps thinking that someone will take the baby!
My contribution to the entire effort was to feed Greg (Eilidh's other half) by arranging for an Indian Restaurant to deliver a curry to the maternity Unit at 11:00pm. Feed Eilidh's cat at 7:00am Sunday morning, of which the cat eat two mouthfuls and then vamussed outside to go kill a bird.
Relay text messages through the night from the delivery room being sent by Eilidh's Mum to me to her brother and sister, thereby keeping Kate awake as I ran out of money on my pay as you go phone and so had to climb out of bed start up my computer top up via the internet climb back into bed and continue receiving and sending txts.
And finally bring a Red Cross food parcel to Eilidh as the food is horrible in the hospital.
Useless facts about Phoebe's name
Phoebe is one of Saturn's moons
http://www.spacedaily.com/news/cassini-04p.html

Phoebe is a Titan Godess whose name is associated with the Greek words phoibos, "bright" or "radiant," phoibaô "to purify" and phoibazô "to give prophesy."

Oh yeah Phoebe was apparently a minor character in some television programme but we don't want to talk about that.
Final piece of trivia Phoebe is obviously a Jedi as she was born on May the Fourth (be with you)
Its Official I'm A Grandad
Greetings fuzzytnth3 (I don't know your real name!),
All I can say is that grandfatherhood is one of the greatest experiences I have had. Perhaps even the greatest - yes, even, perhaps, better than that! Ergo, I congratulate you and I share your bliss. May the family prosper and go from strength to strength.
best,
Pete
Thanks
Thanks Pete I am looking forward to getting to know my first Grandchild and in good time introducing her eventually and in no particular order to Roy, Nick, ukueles, guitars and cycling!
Congratulations and Good Luck
My grandchildren have shown no liking for my music, though occasionally some curiosity. On hearing "My Generation" - "Has he got a stutter?"
Bob
Congrats fuzz box!!
I've gotten 3 daughters and none of them are thankfully yet interested in having kids! But it must be nice to be a grandparent and set up another savings accout for them.
My middle daughter's middle name is Miranda as I had been waiting 7 years or so for Voyager 2 to reach Uranus and she was born exactly on the day of the closest flypast of one of it's moons Miranda.

That grandparent feeling
Well done all round. What a long labour...whooo. My fastest was "She's here" and the longest was "Do we have time for lunch - well not really.."
My grandson Harry was born nearly as fast as my daughter (in about 3 hours) and despite my trepidation at being called 'Granny' the experience has been amazing. He is now 2 years and 8 months and Alex is expecting my second granchild in September. At first he was just a sick and poo machine but now he is interactive I am far more attached.......
Linda
(Actually called Lin Lin by Harry as he never mastered granny thanks goodness).
Looking forward
to the interactive phase myself Linda.
As you say the early days are poo, sick and sleep, but weird how the old habits of holding a baby and rocking from side to side come back like 15 years gap never happened.
As for what I will be called, who knows, Granps, Pops, Da, Grandad, Grum I shall wait n' see.
A cousin of mine was known by everyone in Stornoway as Doh Doh, in his late teens he went to the mainland so he could be known by his real name. All because his little brother couldn't say Donald.
Just saw this, Graeme!
So happy for ya!
You and Aunt Mhairi will be wonderful good bad influences for Phoebe - I look forward to meeting her at her first Harpergig
xx
Thanks
Thanks one and all for your lovely comments.
I've been experiencing this unkown feeling this week of having passed something on to the planet that is partly down to me while at the same time out of my control, weird.
Looking forward to my Fiftheth birthday next year which I aim to celebrate with all my kids, Grand Child/ren (who knows what may happen in the intervening period) and other halves at the top of Ben Nevis or perhaps a wee Corbett as my eldest refuses to walk up anything that is steeper than Sauciehall Street and a Son inlaw who doesn't do camping!
I am aiming to build a Wheely Bin Pinhole camera to drag up the hill to mark the occasion in the sillyest fashion possible :)
