![]() I went to see Wizz Jones last night at Walthamstow Folk Club. Still going strong. He played Davey Graham's version of Anji as a tribute. I was sitting six feet away from a legend, playing his old Epiphone - wow. He'd just had it refretted, said it was the most money ever been spent on it in 50 years. Left foot still stomping up and down as he sits on a chair and bashes out the original white man's blues. Thanks to Linda Carter of this community for pointing out the Steve Tilston gig in 2 weeks time.

Perranporth/Newquay 1970
AR/
God ! Andy you seem to keep coming up with disturbing historical similarities from bygone ages!
From hitching around Europe to trying out the Cornwall surf busking; it's getting quite unnerving...
You'll have to forgive me for the moment, because I've just sent an amazing really longish post to the Mistlethrush site to Nick Lane about how genealogically some people seem to have longer fingers than others , like Pat Methney and Jimi Hendrix, and lost the whole posting in the process... am in perdue..shock horror.. never mind ...
Going back...never a Beatnik ; always a Hippy, but because we went on scooters with Parkers on, I suppose we were termed as Mods.Especially when the Hells Angels tried to force us off the road in a pack. We were just youngsters unclassified with no stereotype in our heads. Innocent young teenagers exploring the Universe on an education of college, music, ganga and acid etc...
But we had a great time in our youthful youth; and, didn't really appreciate the dangers of being classed as such. Always regretted it ever since, because we were were in Cornwall when the 1970 IOW festival was on with JH ..............shit!!!
Our Pompey mates who made it ; never stopped reminding us. Bastards!! Apparently you could actually hear Jimi's music drifting across the Solent to the mainland.

ps In more or less the same era I was with my girlfriend Alison Morgan at Lee on Solent when USS Nimitz [sp?] aircraft carrier turned up and and we could barely see the IOW. It was awe-inspiringly large and we just watched for three days helicopters taking off and returning all the time just to feed the blinking ship.
pps Still hope to make April Fools Day at Romford folky club ...cheers!!
ppps Just bought a new Epiphone BTW ; but bit of a buzzing sound on the bass strings which I'm not happy with, even in standard tuning.
Well I was just a young kid
Well I was just a young kid who happend to be growing up in Cornwall at the time of the beatnik early hippy thing, but the sand dunes at Perranporth became very well know to me later.
I make do with average length fingers and remind myself from time to time that Django Rheinhart only had the use of two fingers anyway.
re buzzing strings in these days of electro/acoustic pickups there seems to be a bit of an obsession with "extra lite" guage guitar strings. Try putting on a set of mediums or silk and steel. Otherwise it's going to be a problem with the action ie bridge too low, frets uneven or neck not straight.
