The Rowan Tree

The Rowan Tree is a new folk song written recently and first performed at one of the regular Tuesday Evening Andy Roberts Webcasts at 7.00pm weekly.

These Tuesday evening webcasts are beginning to build up a little bit of momentum again after a two week break caused by lack of internet access in a remote part of Scotland. When a few people log in as well and make some banter it adds to the shared experience, but for the person doing the broadcasting, ie me, it dosen't seem to refresh as often so sometimes it's not until afterwards that I can get a picture of who has dropped by and said what. Linda always helps with that so if there's anything that needs my attention she can always call out. Or I could try having a second computer online within my field of vision.

The Rowan tree song has grown on me since I quickly decided it was finished last week, and it went down well at Havering Folk Club too so I'm probably going to keep it in the current setlist for a while. The video is straight from the webcast since the live audience performance wasn't captured this time. One person took issue with the line "Berries are red, bright and fair" claiming that Rowan tree or Mountain Ash berries are orange but I would counter that the wild rowan tree has scarlet red berries, and they'll turn dark red later on as well - the ones with orange or yellow berres are mere cultivars and the birds won't eat them.
