PRESS RELEASE
Nick Harper takes on Everest!
Acclaimed singer/songwriter Nick Harper, son of the legendary Roy Harper,
and longtime Marlborough resident, releases his 9th album - Miracles For
Beginners – on June 4.
With inspiration taken from history, politics and the world about him, he
sees this as a return to his acoustic roots – of course, accompanied by his
trademark ability for crafting lyrics of coruscating wit and pithy social
comment.
He will be showcasing some of the new material at a FREE gig in Marlborough
on April 29 at The Bear, supported by another local musician, Ben Jones
After this, Nick embarks on a five-week, 25 date UK tour in support of his
long-awaited ‘Love Is Music’ DVD (to be released on April 30).
In October, he will be part of a 45-strong team of musicians, mountaineers,
cancer survivors and those whose lives have been affected by cancer, taking
part in a 14-day trek and acoustic concert at the base camp of Mt Everest in
aid of the Love, Hope, Strength Foundation. Set up by Mike Peters of The
Alarm, the Foundation aims to fight against cancer worldwide, the October
trek will culminate with a grand finale concert in Kathmandu and is to be
filmed by MTV and the BBC. For more details, visit www.lovehopestrength.com
This is both the trip of a lifetime for Nick, as well as his being able to
support a cause that is close to his heart. His mother, Monica, for many
years a head teacher in Marlborough, succumbed to breast cancer in 2000
after a lengthy battle against the disease.

Harper Takes On Everest
Well, that beats the hell out of my mug-shot on these very pages. That's me on the top of Mt. Snowdon...
I'm so looking forward to the new album, 'Treasure Island' was superb and I can only hope that Nick's work just gets better and better.
New album
Miracles For Beginners definitely shows another side to Nick's vocal and song-writing abilities. I think it may surprise some, and for those who weren't so keen on Treasure Island, this will bring them back to the fold!
Everest
I was thinking of doing the Katmandu / Everest walk for charity also one day when in training. We could do one under the umbrella of the Roy Harper fanclub maybe if our lungs are up to it and we all give up smoking? Does Nick realise what it's like singing at 10 - 12,000 feet altitude I wonder? Who is carrying his guitar and equipment? Next he'll be doing one at the bottom of the Atlantic on Helium?!
