About Nick

All proceeds go directly to the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan and the Alaw Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor where Mike Peters (a two times cancer survivor),was diagnosed and successfully treated for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) in 2005/06. Mike Peters is still undergoing long term maintenance treatment at the Alaw Unit with a view to finding a cure under the watchful eye of Dr. David Edwards who has been Mike's haemotologist throughout both of his cancer battles. Dr. Edwards will also be accompanying Mike to the summit of Snowdon. Snowdon Rocks 2 is promoted through the LOVE HOPE STRENGTH Foundation, a charity formed by Mike Peters to raise awareness and funding for cancer care both locally and globally, with a further series of world wide events that will continue throughout 2008. In particular, 'Peru Rocks', which will take place between October 8th and 17th in the form of a 4 day trek through the High Andes with acoustic concerts at the world famous Macchu Picchu Citadel and finale in the Peruvian capital city of Lima. Last year's event on Snowdon raised a staggering £43,000 (far more than Mike Peters ever imagined), and some of the additional funding was distributed throughout cancer care organisations in North Wales such as Ty Gobaith, St David's Hospice in Llandudno and St. Kentigerns Hospice in St. Asaph.

For my part I expect to see him at the Trowbridge festival ("village pump") and the Levellers gig at the Royal Albert Hall. As I've said before, it's very much worth making the effort to go out and see Nick live. He is a very accomplished performer and often is able to bring the songs to life in a way that transcends what you may already have heard on the recordings. Tour dates are here. Bring your friends! |

If you haven't seen Nick live, you owe it to yourself to go and see him if you can. His gigs are astounding; he has a massive stage presence, great sense of humour, and a guitar style that makes other musicians green with envy. If you go to a gig and fancy writing a review, we'd love to read them in the forums here. A full list of tour dates can be found at harperspace along with lots of other stuff about Nick, including an online store, plenty of free downloads of sample tracks, pictures, and also information about the amazing trip to Mt Everest that he undertook last year with Love Hope Strength. Nick is an amazing acoustic artist and deserves wider recognition. If you're still unconvinced have a listen to the Nick Harper Special podcast that I did recently for some sample tracks and an interview with Nick. |

![]() It's been a great week for Nick Harper as he featured on both BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio 2 this week.
Well done on both of those Nick, it's great to see you getting this sort of coverage. |

I liked the comment that people can be "more relaxed" at festivals... It's only brief but you can listen to it here.

![]() Nick has started his trip to Everest Base Camp as part of the LoveHopeStrength foundations "Everest Rocks" project. See www.lovehopestrength.com/everest for daily updates on the project. More media coverage should appear as the trip progresses.
Nick appeared on the BBC "Points West" programme recently in a very nice little segment about his trip to Everest, which has just started. Click the "read more" link to see the footage. |

![]() Andy Hughs interview with Nick Harper includes some excellent copy and brilliant photographs by Graham Stewart/Retina. Here is a low resolution capture of the broadcast, with kind permission of "dim" over at the www.harperspace.com forums. WMV format only I'm afraid, so it's a bit Microsoft-centric. |

On Saturday June 21st 2008 (The Longest Day), Mike Peters, the internationally acclaimed singer of Welsh rock and roll band The Alarm and current world record holder for the Highest Concert performed on land at 18,500 feet on MT. Everest (Everest Rocks October 21st 2007), led a procession of doctors, nurses, fans and supporters on a charity fundraising walk to the top of Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa (the highest point in England & Wales), to perform
Nick Harper has a new tour coming up for 2008, starting in May and running through to November in Norway. Along the way he includes a trip up Mount Snowdon for
Nick has started his 2008 "Dig on Down" tour and as I write this he did the first performance last night (Jan 31) at Mr Kyps in Poole. The tour goes through to mid-March so there is plenty of opportunity for those that live in the UK to see him.
Firstly, the Wales show. This features an excellent interview and session pieces, and you can tell that Alan Thompson is really in tune with Nicks music, and rather taken aback by his guitar skills.
Nick was featured in a brief phone interview on BBC Radio Merseyside on November 14th 2007. He discussed his approach to songwriting, his influences, and of course the trip to Everest and his entry in the Guinness book of records.

With many thanks to Paula for making this available to us, here's an MP3 of Nick's interview on Mojo radio recently. It's fairly low bitrate, and there's the odd glitch, but that doesn't matter for the spoken interview bits.
