Very amateurish test but thought I'd share my ugly double chin, out of tune, lacking intro/outro and unfocussed audio vidblog. It's a live version of the Open C busking one I did on the last Splinters CD. Don't worry will not start bombarding you all with self promotion crap from my new toy! Testing 1....2....

Looks fine to me. Glad to see the webcam is working OK. Do you wear a hat indoors all the time? :)

The hat's my air conditioning! At least I've given up wearing sunglasses to bed!

Well whose going to iron my shirt, whose going to kiss when it hurts? Sorry got distracted then...who's going to volunteer then to organise a Splinterish Youtubish DVD then of us all? Always nice to put faces to anons! If PD's too busy Podding along; I haven't got the techy bits within my brain, and Nick Lane did such an excellent job on the CD? And Lane Towers in Glos may need a bit of diversion from the humdrum inanity of the life / death cycle? Mind you he usually frequents Mistlethrush unless he's opearting here subdefuginistically? Monster did sign off as Nick here the other day??

Nick wherefore art thou? Or anyone else with time on their precious hands for that matter? I don't mind financing it if you send me a rough busyness plan including P&P etc.

cheers
andi

PS Doesn't that brave wounded soldier who's just done the London Marathon in two weeks and raised a £1m for charity look like Big Chris facially? Or am I seeing things sober now?

Very nice job, Andi! Makes me want to learn that style of play even more, but I tend towards Rock, even when I play Jazz & Swing. But I loved it anyway.

It looks fine for youtube. If I wanted to disect your performance and learn from it (not a bad idea) the video isn't really detailed enough, and the video and audio don't sync closely enough. Actually, that can be a protection for the artist. I agree with PD, the music is the more important component.

I've been working on my interpretation (because I can't play Roy's style) of "Hangman" on guitar. I can hit the notes vocally (except those last few peaks at the end) that Roy did, but my problem on guitar is consistency. I keep adding embellishments, too. You did beautifully for LIVE, Andi. Now, how are you with a band?

Finally -- On behalf of Birthday Boy (PD), next time you want to post a video link, start a new thread so as not to confuse things! Then people start adding on their unrelated comments and the whole thing becomes a big mess!:D

Actually that's a good point - I'm splitting this thread into two now so it's more obvious :)

Thanks for all your kind comments. Am learning as I am going. Current problem is trying to sync the action with the sound. Why the delay? Have I got the time lapse thingy on wrong setting of seconds or have I bought a cheap webcam for Youtube. Or is it Youtube's problem? Is it an inferior frames per sec model? Should I have bought an expensive digicam instead? Or should I use a direct mic into the comp nearer to me [or plug the guitar in as a direct feed?] and not the one on the webcam? So many questions, so little time to...

PS Am crap at playing with bands....repetivity is not my forte....timing changes spontaneously on the spur of musical moment with me. Hope you like the next one coming out soon as a tribute to RH et al.

PPS Instead of the compilation DVD I was talking about , how about a common Youtube site called something like Stormcock.vid or Harper.fan where we share all our uploaded vids? Like Shaun and his Tom Tiddlying? Thanks Shaun for Part Two of McGoohan's Blues which I had been searching for years. Did you ever touch base with that Cardiffian Mudshark BTW?

Just caught your you tube offering andi ... very impressive, and hats off to you for dabbling with the arcane video sharing process ... I wouldn't know where to start mate ... way too techy for me. Look forward to further offerings :)

Best regards ... Rainbow:)

All the YouTube I've ever seen is like that, Andi! Don't worry about it! Even my still camera produces video this way. Unless you're shooting in HD or TV standards format(s), it seems to be the system or the conversion process.

Like my previous comment, it can protect the artist, so don't fight it! (It is annoying though, isn't it?).

Nice to hear I'm not the only one who's not good playing with others (but I can sing along w/ my own or other accompaniment). Concentrating on difficult parts distracts me from what others are doing and keeping time...

We need practice with others, and time, that's all!

Just done wicked tribute to Harpers et al live on my Webcam and it's saying too large for Youtube! Then it says send it by Outlook and that ain't working. Good news I haven't lost it [the recording that is!] and will have to retire to my bed of insanity until work in the morn. Tomorrow's another fray!

Never ever let I-incompetent computer illiterate 'friends' use your new Youtube Account! This simple reminder here 'remember me on your computer' ticked or unticked by the unwaryillingly cyber-canny can cause havoc with your sys. For the past day or so between shifts have had to undo everything that I'd worked on; Youtube thought I was my mate and me him ; then, when I tried to delete his influence on my computer, all my stuff got deleted off my Youtube so had to delete his new Youtube as well...the story goes on, but will be back up and running by the weekend hopefully, if not tomorrow.

I bet some of you have similar stories of computer friendly-fire woe out there? Please relate some of your worse computer nightmares or is that starting a tangential thread? If the thread gets fractured PD can always diversify it elsewhere, if it takes off, and becomes an interesting topic for discussion. I bet he has had some comp nightmares in the past, especially when commercial systems crash etc?

Luckily I have a strong mental constitution ha!! :hurray::reddevil::hurray:

This is why I password protect my account on my main machine and insist on people having their own logins. It drives my wife mad when she "just wants to google something" but that's a small price to pay...

Profound thanks Andrew Davison!

Vimeo looks vary interesting; but seems to only accept sharing thru' Gmail & Yahoo contacts. Back to housekeeping husbandry then via Hotmail etc.

With love from Paul Watterson!

Any way to enlarge image?
The image is the right size for forum embedding, but if you look at the vimeo "embed" options it gives you the opportunity to specify different sizes and gives you some code to use, so you can set that up any way you want for "normal" web pages. I'm reluctant to increase the size here for screen resolution reasons.

If you want to continue with youtube you could simply reduce the length of the video, maybe by chopping off the stuff at the beginning or something? I don't know what software you use to edit the video but it should be easy enough to do...

Paul.

Yes tks. Realised that I'd overstayed my welcome on Youtube 10 min slot [lost time doing the umprompted comedy sketch as a preamble!] which is why I posted it to you via/vis ye ol'Royal Mail. Anywaywhichway have managed to get back to some semblance of order on Youtube, and done an abbreviated Test version of the same [non-perfecto, first outake] :

jJPOFM6WkCE

[I'll test the link after-swards]

Also managed to find the Edit Youtube options - tks. Think I was stuck in Webcam options which are not very flex.

Thing I don't understand about YT yet is tags etc; and how suddenly some beautiful RH related vids are drifting in.... I feel as though I am up there with the stars. It is truly amazing and all pervading. Endlessisity. See if I can embed my Tribute to Roy Harper abbreviated version here later. Things to do! Rolling....

Tremendous effort, Andi! I watched them both, they were actually different recordings too, weren't they? Ok, it took you maybe 30 seconds to really warm up. The payoff was worth it.

You have proven my theory their must be a 100 if not 10,000 really good guitarists for every one that makes it big.

You've also shown why the guitar is far and away the most popular musical instrument in the US (and I'm guessing UK and EU). Five acoustics (including a 12-string) and a violin (my first instrument for 4 months in 3rd grade). You humble me with the many picking patterns used so skillfully, but I almost never use open chord tuning:wink::D I've 5 git-boxes too, two are electric. I whistle, sing, occasionally play piano (where I had a whole year of formal training). I've a Taylor, Fender, Brian Moore... I'm axe-ing, Whadda You Got?

I don't know that I'm good enough to post anything but a few of my original songs, and only one I think is really great with just my vocal and guitar. I really need to practice with others for a while, if I were to do anything else. The ego thing seems to get in the way with friends and strangers, pros v. amateurs. At present, I'm hoping to make some new recordings in the next few months, and have said I'd record the story of how I discovered Roy for PD (he's getting pretty close to "Z").

I probably won't make my decisions about seeing Nick in the US until the last moment, but I'd be nice to meet all you Harp-Heads. I'm still rooting for NH to appear at the Ithaca Music Festival in NY, but Pittsburgh looks like the best bet. Boston, maybe...

Thank you!

Don't understand the warming up inference. You've got me thinking. Never realised that before. I probably do start quiet as an intro, and then try to take off; but never thought of it as warming up; more like gentle intro to Open Tuning [OT] sounding of the notes which hopefully take off eventually in the future? Like a'warming up the audience into the mellifluosity of OT's?
