Don't know why I hadn't heard of this before now ... so I thought I'd let you know, in case you are in the same boat as I was !!

Anathema are a Doom Metal ( according to wikipedia : an extreme subgenre of heavy metal.) group from Liverpool and the other month I bought one of their DVD's ( http://www.townsend-records.co.uk/product.php?pId=112126&pType=2 ) as it contains a promo they did, covering Roy's Hope song. Now I only just got round to watching it last night ... the first song on their DVD starts off very Pink Floyd-ish ( which is good ) ... but then goes into what obviously is the doom metal part ( not exactly my cup of tea !! ); so I wasn't expecting much for their Hope promo !!

But how suprised I was !! Chuffing excellent !! Now for any Roy completists out their, I would recommend getting the DVD ... but for the rest :

now the beauty of bands doing cover versions, is shown here; as I guess Sour Jane isn't a Roy fan, but a big fan of Anathema ... and so here, she plays her own rendition of Hope :

and here another Anathema fan playing their version :

oh I'm getting carried away here now ( must be the ASP influence ), but here is a live version of Anathema playing Hope acoustically :

and finally, in case you need to be reminded what the best version sounds like :

Nice collection there.

And just in case anyone doesn't know, not only do Anathema cover "Hope" on the album, but Roy recites "Bad Speech" before it too, a slightly different version from the one on '...Jugula'.

Hadn't played this for a while so took a look at Aaro's website for the tab.

Turns out the tab actually has a wee mistake for the bass notes in the chorus at the end of the lines "I wanted to live forever" which should be A, B, C, G

There are two missing chords one at the line "A sea of daffodils spring into bloom" which I think should be Fmaj7 with a C in the bass, followed by the next line "You are the mist The frost across my window pane " which I think is Am

Hope it helps (sorry had to do that )

I know two people who only know only bits of The Harpers and this is definitely their fav track along with Tom Tiddler's Ground. Mind you they happen to be Led Zeppies.
