Yet again, got this song stuck in my head...
Was wondering if any of you guys had any thoughts on how it is played...
I was faffing around with DADGAD, but I dunno, still sounds a bit off...
I know the main song is a downward progression from:-
B-A-G-F C-E-A
But the C-E-A just doesn't ring home right, I really don't know...
Has anyone pissed about with this?

I'm not a big guitar player, a mere beginner to be truthful. I set a mate of mine a challenge, he teaches the guitar and drums so I copied him a couple of Roy DVD's, unfortunately he is still scratching his head working out Once and Tom Tiddlers Ground, Roy certainly has a knack of stumping even the hardened accomplished guitarists'. I think he may have sussed the majority, but he is amazed at the tunings and he is another convert.
Sorry, I know this doesn't help you Shaun :D :m8:

Roy could always sing high in those days..I need singing vocal chord lessons..perhaps it's too late?
A good thread maybe YT Roy /Nick covers?

I agree. I'm at work with no guitar and no music, but I can hear it in my head and it's standard tuning. I'd wager the chord just after "gives me the shakes" is Em. Is the verse not just based around Am?

HOE can it be Standard if a flat barre gives a chord? Impossibilities all-surrounding.

I'm sure I've seen Roy play this in standard tuning.
Am - Em - Am - Em - Dm for the verse
can't remember the chorus bit but if I had a guitar here could probably work it out. It's all standard chords as far as I remember.

I have it from another "reliable" source too, that it is most definitely not DADGAD and is standard tuning, hope you get it sussed sooner rather than later Shaun! :m8: :m8: :m8:

I'm not sure what prompted you to say this (is this on the clip you mention?), but a standard-tuned guitar played open still gives a chord.

Soz! Wires crossed with Tom Tiddly's Ground.
What's the chord called then when you play Standard with no fingers on at all then? E something?

What I know about music theory is the lowest note is where the name of a Chord begins. But an E with a 4th, 7th (minor/blues), 10th (minor), 12th and 15th (second octave up) is not a standard chord in my book.
Call it E4,7,10,12,15?
I see it as the best compromise for playing the most chords in the key of "C" without barring or stretching your fingers.
My opinion is it's not a normal chord, but I also agree any combination of notes (no matter how awful sounding) IS a chord, even if it's too hard to name.

Linton Kwesi Johnson has always been a favourite artist of mine, Dread Beat An' Blood is a fantastic reggae album, I would highly recommend to anyone. Saw him live many moons ago. A (Jamacain born) politically driven poet who sang about the Brixton riots among other things, another artist who is a master of painting images with words, and really creating an atmosphere with music.
Thanks Andi :m2:
