I am resurrecting what transpired to be a very popular thread on the other board. I think we had about 800 posts!
To kick off: Nick is very very nice, handsome, wearing well and some of his fans are bonkers.
Not my view but Avrilo of the singingmidwifeblog's. She also has a nice pic there of Nick @ the Cavern recently (wearing that gorgeous black puffer that he looks very cool in!).

You may have seen this in the paper yesterday. A mental health facility in Salford published in a magazine a top ten of festive songs for th ementally disordered. Of course there has been a bruhaha about it, but some are quite funny:
Do You Hear What I Hear? (Schizophrenia)
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town To Get Me (Paranoid)
Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)

Pah, I'm en route to infinity!
critch
08-02-2008, 10:15 PM
Pah, I'm en route to infinity!
Assuming we can count your posts as all part of a set of posts, would you think that then infinity you are approaching would be a asaṃkhyāta ("countless, innumerable") or ananta ("endless, unlimited")?
I suppose this is dependant upon the limit of the integer set that Paul has designed to count the post numbers. The IEEE floating-point standard usually would specify positive and negative infinity values but these can be the result of arithmetic overflow, division by zero, or other exceptional operations.
Some programming languages (for example, J and UNITY) specify greatest and least elements, i.e. values that compare (respectively) greater than or less than all other values. These may also be termed top and bottom, or plus infinity and minus infinity; they are useful as sentinel values in algorithms involving sorting, searching or windowing. In languages that do not have greatest and least elements, but do allow overloading of relational operators, it is possible to create greatest and least elements (with some overhead, and the risk of incompatibility between implementations).
So Paul, how many posts are we allowed before we have to create a new login (or you have to buy a new server!)?
HarperPR
08-02-2008, 10:18 PM
Now if only you'd put all that in your gig reviews - hahaha!
critch
08-02-2008, 10:19 PM
Yeah - no one would read them!
Post counts are stored in an unsigned integer per user, with up to 10 digits. This means that the number of posts can range from 0 to 9999999999.
Based on an average of 10 posts per day, according to my calculations it will take 2739726 years for Ms PR to exhaust the available numbers. Should this situation ever arise I will probably take the easy option and just reset her post count to zero again.

WITHOUT PREJUDICE
I think the whole system of judging people's contributions to decide their username hierarchal echelon status nomenclaturely should be replaced with a more judicious & fair grading ascendancy to aspire to. The present system is whimsically decided by some remote arbitary judge/fairy on his pedestal valuing quantity of posts [the more inane/mundane the better] and not the quality of the postings. This is blatantly unfair and not because I am now 'a real loony on a bus' with sour grapes, but it encourages a dilution of input with no respect to quality control and suchlike. In addition, the 'sweetener' if you transmit a donation, in offering cool options of a bank of solicitous phrases like 'silk pyjamas cruising in the Bahamas' renders the whole Richter Scale of tectonicity senseless and open to blatant corruption. I rest my case...

Sorry to out-geek the geek...... :w00t::w00t:.....
.....but, in mysql there is a integar limit, dependent on what you use probably the 32bit one here and then the upper limit for posts is actually 2147483647, in which case it will only take her 588351 years to get to the upper limit.

I think we should organise a "Harpic Tour Bus" next year! However this is a tour bus with a difference! This is for the fanatic fans like me, Paula, Linn...etc. Then we can go to every gig and drink! Yay! (of course Nick could have a space too, but only if he asks *reeealllllly* nicely! :p
