Apologies to those who have already heard this through the other forum.

I've not done a sponsored anything for a great many years but this cause is now very close to me as it was the new Myton Hospice in Coventry that cared for my Mother for her last few days at the end of February. I wasn't sure whether to pester people here as I doubt if any of you have even heard of the place (no, not Coventry) but I know that any donation will be put to the best possible use.

The Coventry site has only been open a few months and despite being equipped for 20 in-patients, they only have the resources to make use of half of the rooms. Hopefully this event will not only raise money directly but also raise the profile, within the city, of the new site to the level enjoyed by the more established sites in Warwick and Rugby.

I realise that it's not exactly the Tour De France I'm embarking on with this bicycle ride but for a man of my advanced years and general decrepitude, I'm sure it'll hurt a bit.

So, if anybody would like to throw a couple of quid or more into my virtual, upturned cap, you can do so here and also get a bit more information on the Myton Hospices as well.

Many thanks to all of you that have contributed towards this fundraising effort. The three of us have raised over £1300 so far but if anyone else would like to throw in a few quid I would be like the man who stood in front of the moving train.* You can donate via the Justgiving page via the link below (there's a photo of the three of us at the end of the ride there). It costs around £7 million per year to run these hospices and every penny has to be found by voluntary donations so every penny really does count.

The ride ended up being over 46 miles because for some daft reason we decided to go further than required by linking the Rugby and Warwick hospices that both come under the Myton group. It was hard work against the wind for a knackered,old codger like me but nevertheless, very enjoyable. The nurse says I'll be able to sit down again around Christmas time.

Thanks for your support.

* Chuffed to bits.
