On another forum I visit, there is a thread called "Album For Today" it's a great thread for finding new & recommended albums (Not new in the just released sense, but new to me) from artists I have listened to a little over the years, and also bands/artists whose music I've never heard, and from old classics to new stuff. I thought it might be a good idea to start a similar thread here, just post an album you'd recommend that you've listened to today.

I'd second that recommendation, although it might be worth pointing out that it was released on this side of the pond under the band name 'Poet and the Roots' rather than using LKJ's own name - both the vinyl and CD versions that I have use that name and it is still for sale that way
For myself I'd like to recommend another alter ego release:
http://pitts-is.me.uk//images/Chips%20From%20The%20Chocolate%20Fireball%20%28An% 20Anthology%29.jpg
The Dukes were actually XTC in disguise, and this is a slight cheat because 'Chips From A Chocolate Fireball' is actually a compilation, being an amalgam of both the 25 O'Clock EP and the Psonic Psunspot LP

This is really buttering my muffins at the moment, from 1975.

Live at the 1979 Havana Jazz Festival, with guitar legend John McLaughlin and Miles Davis drummer Tony Williams, also Jaco Pastorius on bass. If you like The Mahavishnu Orchestra and jazz fusion, then you'll love this. :m8:

Having completed my marathon audition of all the Richard Thompson on my iPod, I'm now embarking on the even larger collection of John Martyn, in alphabetic order of album, so we started with the 4CD box set, "Ain't No Saint", carried on with "And.", continued with "BBC Radio One Live" and I've now nearly finished "Best of". I expect it will be "Best of the Rest" next, followed by "Bless The Weather". Perhaps the Harpers will get the treatment next :m8: Were I to interrupt this sequence, it could conceivably be with some of the albums mentioned heretofore in this thread. I haven't got that particular Luka Bloom album but do have most of his others mentioned earlier.
Good thread, Shaun. My first visit to the forum for ages...

Enjoy the John Martyn, I came in late on that one but there are some fabulous songs. Bless the Weather and Ain't No Saint are definite highlights :D

Went to see Spirit live at the Cambridge Corn Exchange in the 80's, they were the support for Wishbone Ash, crazy days! :sifone:

I'd have loved to have seen Spirit. I remember turning on to them in about 1976 and subsequently acquired a best of album.
Update on my John Martyn marathon: I've just gone through The Hidden Years and am now on In Session - superb mid 70s BBC stuff, soon to be followed by Inside Out - more of the same! :-)
Glorious Fool followed by Grace & Danger was good too ...

Is that "our" Andy Roberts or the one that played on Roy's albums (looking at the date, I think I guess the answer)? Update on the John Martyn marathon... I'm nearing the end of the marathon, with The Tumbler now. I'm still convinced that the best versions of various classic Solid Air and Bless The Weather tracks I've heard are on the Titanic Town soundtrack. The production seems clearer on this album than on either the original BTW and SA CDs or the remastered versions. Looking forward to hearing my latest downloads from Joe Bonamassa and Jackie Leven :-)

Jackie Leven is a great story teller, both in song and on stage. Well worth seeking out live if you get the oppurtunity.

This month PR has a CD album of some psychedelic delicacies to titillate our soundbuds [might stick it up as a Vine if anyone appreciates my exertions]. Some quite strange stuff there which I'm still trying to open my mind to....

Been listening to some Neil Young today, it's been a while, plus some Bert Jansch classics, had the house to myself this afternoon, a perfect opportunity on a wet November Sunday to just relax and catch up on some old favourites, I must be getting old, I'm sure I would have enjoyed a very different Sunday 20 years ago!

One of my favourite albums ever there Shaun
I dug out Handmade Life by Chris Wood this weekend and was reminded what an amazing songwriter he is. It is well worth getting as I am sure all Roy fans will appreciate the quality of the writing and many similar themes to Roy such as injustice, growing up during the war, gardening (!) and a real swipe at capitalism in the excellent 'The Grand Correction'
