Roy is going to celebrate his 70th year in style at the Royal Festival Hall, London. Tickets will be on general sale on Monday 23rd May. Full details at the Royal Festival Hall website (http://ticketing.southbankcentre.co.uk/find/music/gigs-contemporary/tickets/roy-harper-plus-special-guests-59866):
http://www.stormcock.net/files/image/pd/05_roy_harper.jpgTo celebrate his 70th birthday, Roy Harper performs a one-off concert with very special guests.
Part of the wave of troubadours who came of age in the folk clubs of London in the mid-1960s, Roy Harper is regarded as one of the icons of his generation. Albums such as Stormcock are praised as masterpieces and throughout his career he has been hailed by musicians and critics alike, with Led Zeppelin naming 'Hats off to Roy Harper' for him and Pink Floyd inviting him to perform lead vocals on 'Have a Cigar'. His fans read like a who's who of popular music from the last 40 years and include Kate Bush and Pete Townshend, as well as a new generation of musicians ranging from Joanna Newsom to Fleet Foxes and Jim O'Rourke.
The nominal start time is 7.30pm. It hardly seems like 10 years to me since we were celebrating his 60th at exactly the same venue, and those that were there or have the CD of the event (http://www.royharper.co.uk/magento/roy-harper-shop/royal-festival-hall-live-2001.html) will know that it was a magical evening. The Bedford Strings will be in attendance again, but there's no information at this stage about any other guests that may take part in the proceedings.
Hope to see you there!
