What I have been listening to...

How does this Last FM work then that some of you have? Is that involve another long and tedious (grrr) registering process?

I have been listening to the Levellers' Truth and Lies album and some tracks from the new album, Audioporn's You Turn Me On, Richard Ashcroft's last offering and Roy's HQ.

Audioporn! yay.... I saw Adrien support Roy at the 100 Club and was impressed by his stage presence and songs. Anyway, one thing led to another and now I travel with his solo album and Audioporns latest, he is also friends with Sharon (Pooka) 6 degrees of separation etc...

i've just put double life on my mac, so got that going at the mo, have had levellers going too (zeitgeist) and some jose gonzalez :biggrin: in the car i have tulls, war child and the stormcock reissue that i got for crimbly and bullinamingvase, crimbly gift too, finally replaced all my harper from vinyl!! and in the kitchen i have MBWR 32 accompanying my cooking and cleaning :D

i think it takes about 15 seconds to register but you do have to set up your music player to submit the tracks to the site, which is made fairly painless, you shouldnt have too much trouble. I like last FM, its a bit nerdy though. Our leader pd is currently at the top of my list of people with similar listening habits.

I think "digital" is the clue. You can get it on a DAB radio in my area and I do dip in from time to time but as you say, it can be repetitive. Whenever I've listened (Usually Alice Cooper on Sunday mornings) I can last for about four or five songs until AC/DC come on and it's quickly back to Radio Three, Four or Five.

I've been listening to a few old favourites lately, I have a daily dose of Roy Harper and Frank zappa, Once, Valentine, Burn The World, Roxy & Elsewhere, Shut Up & Play Yer Guitar, Apostrophe. Also The Groundhogs - Split, Black Diamond, and Marianne Faithfull - Broken English, and intertwined with some quality reggae Linton Kwesi Johnson - Dread Beat & Blood...Windows media player is a wonderful invention I can play my tunes while trawling the net - happy days!!

Yeah I'm really hoping to Linn, not a big twang fan..though I do have broad tastes in music (some would call my taste eclectic) I've listened to them and several other "new" bands The Fray, Muse and others recommended by friends but they just dont do it for me. I'm not a member of Nicks site yet so perhaps you could send me some gig dates - thanks

That's what I've just been listening to on the BBC4 doc on Floyd's DSOTM. Now am just frittering and wasting the hours in an offhand way instead of working on my next interviews (Levs & Panate), putting together an int/v Nick has done (more in the Press forum), arranging all the press and sorting out enquiries for the tour...etc etc...so I'll see you on the dark side of the moon (perhaps).

Mr Bill's Wild Ride #33: Jesus, Mary & Jane, featuring lots of interesting stuff. Best track on "Jesus" is "Jesus Left Chicago" by ZZ Top, from the classic green album, Tres Hombres. There are loads of classics on "Mary" such as "The Wind Cries Mary" by Jimi, "Thoughts of Mary Jane" by Nick Drake and "Crazy Mary" by Victoria Williams (I thought it was Rickie Lee Jones when I heard it). "Jane" has Roy's "Zaney Janey", Dylan's "Queen Jane Approximately", The Stones' "Lady Jane" and Nick Drake's "Hazey Jane II" in a great sequence. It finisghes with the gorgeous version of "Sweet Jane" by Cowboy Junkies.

Neutral Milk Hotel, "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea".

I'd been hearing such good things about this album, lauded by some so highly I felt I should take the plunge, figuratively speaking. I need to listen to it in its entirety before judging. There are moments of madness and I can hear the hint of brilliance itching to shine through...

Chris Woods - "The Lark Descending" and "Trespasser".

Highly recommended, unreconstructed in an anti-Thatcher way, but nicely up-to-date and witty: for placement purposes only (i.e. not comparing), somewhere in the Carthy-Harper-Bragg area, and with a particularly strong take on the Albion myth/history and England as she is seen, and the way she has been depradated.

Unsettling, but lovely.

Now , who else do I know...?
