Thanks for drawing my attention to the MySpace page.

There are a few songs I don't have on CD and just listening them now.

I sense more CD purchases @ St. Helens.

Paul,

My only comment is that is darned difficult to find because there are quite a few Nick Hapers.

I tried a search on Music Interest "Harperspace" and even that didn't find Nick's page.

I used your MySpace page, Paula, to link through to his.

Is it possible to improve the prominance of Nicks page to searches?

Craig

I loved the changes to the myspace site, Paula. I love that profile pic, especially!

I'd be interested in hearing the studio version of "The Verse Time Forgot", just for curiosity's sake.

Of course the reason I cannot find Nick is because I'm a MySpace moron.....

because I wasn't using MySpace "Music" tab....

....it's this new fangled computer technlogy thing....I'll get there in the end.

You only had to click and go to get there!

Yes I saw the link...

...but totally to MySpace etc so thought I'd work how to find someone without being spoon fed with a link...

....and that's were my trouble began because was in the general MySpace area searching for Nick Harper in the Joe-Public section, not the Music part....

Nick seems to have disappeared from my page (some time ago I think). It may have been a slapped wrist after I was phished or pished, whichever was the case. Now that I'm a reformed character, am I allowed back in?

Are my eyes going peculiar or has Nick suddenly garnered a whole new lot - and a strange lot:biggrin: - of friends on MySpace? I recognise the last one, but I think the page may have been hacked - unless Paula has intentionally given him a bunch of new pals!

Were you by any chance looking at this via the phone Opera Mini browser? Only that happens just the same with me - but on the computer, it's fine.:confused1:

Try this for a test. Go here:

http://groups.myspace.com/magnificentg7

Have a look at the last bulletin from Shaun about Nick at Runcorn as an example...

Looking at this via Opera - and all other things on both this group and Roy's - it comes out repeated over and over, whilst on the computer, there's no problem.

dim

nope.. was on opera on pc.. happens sometimes with FF to...

its because when someone puts a big picture in a comment, myspace inserts a tag that tells ie to make it smaller/control the size of the frames... but opera only recognises proper coding not this half baked rubbish that IE works on, so things like that can happen...

what people think they are doing putting 800x400 images on peoples comments anyway, i dont know...

(and that last thing looks fine on opera on pc... duno about phone,... too late to fanny around with the phone... :D)

I am getting feckin' sick of this :cursing:

FECKFECKFECK. And FECKIN' MYSPACE!

(off to change this, and the password, now, and swear some more)

ps - if anyone sees this happen again - wholesale across the board changes like that which don't seem to make sense - pretty please PM me first so I can try to fix this without it being an even bigger deal, thanks!

hi,

there's a far superior alternative to myspaz if you're bothered. same sort of thing but works better-probably cos it's less 'popular'.

hi,

can you not set it so that people can only put text in the comments, rather that big adverts for their upcoming gigs or whatever? disable html or something...?

agree it can get ridiculous with all the crap some people put in there. it says 'comments' after all!

It's helpful to have images in the comments sometimes - people have posted cool pics and flyers for gigs, so we just monitor that. Personally I don't think it's too bad to let people have a chance to talk up a gig... just in case Nick wanted to do the same some day!

And it's Nick's page but I help out...

Not ANOTHER one! They seem to be springing up every few months. I still think MySpace is about the best and most accessible. Even then I resisted it for a long time. Now I'd find it hard to give up as a good 70% at least of my work and contact links come via that. But it DOES take up an awful amount of time.

Always looking for new things. Like Pauls recommendation of FireFox - brilliant - much faster and more reliable than IE.

hi linda,

even i spend more time on myspace than virb, mainly for the keeping up with 'friends' stuff. but if i'm looking for music, new bands-then it's virb. also, the music player seems to play better than the myspace one. and i like the way it looks. it 'feels' a bit more 'grown up'...

but if everyone you know is on myspace, then i guess there's a case for myspace... i just find it a bit slow...:nopity:

SHAUN I

Sometimes it is annoying when bands etc. send unwanted posters concerning upcoming gigs, but there is an option to disable HTML and also to approve comments, I for one spend a lot of time on Myspace and have made some good friends on there that I exchange rare music and DVD's with and also visit, it's great to share a likeminded interest in specialised music not everyone appreciates (i.e for me Harper/Zappa etc.)
I don't seem to have encountered any problems with the speed on Myspace.

Shaun.

P.S. will check it out though,

I met Paul, my music (and now life) partner through MySpace, and it will always have a special place in my heart because of that. In addition, there is so much amazing music that I would not have discovered had it not been for MySpace.

I agree, MySpace can be a bit slow at times, but I find that happens from time to time with other sites I belong to (such as Facebook and Tribe.net). I'm sure all of these platforms are good, but it's just a question of what we want to achieve through using them.

Yeah, especially when they're Zappa ones and sent to a Zappa hater!:smash::smash: Only joking, Shaun! I did bar the big comments/posters etc, but then found that some of the promoters and festival organisers I am working with, and from whom I DID want a poster, couldn't put them up, so.....had to change. But if I get any rubbish I just delete them.

That's true. I usually refer to MySpace friends as my faux friends because they're not really friends in that same sense, and most just want PR help, in my case! But that said, yes, I have got to know a whole huge bunch of fantastic people I would never have come into contact with otherwise through it. Even had a proposal and an offer to move to Nashville - bloody 'ell, there of all places, ha! And, what's worrying, I think he's serious.:blushing::closedeyes:

Agreed. It's not about which site works best, or quickest or has the most or least spam, it's about communicating with people. Everyone who is a fan knows the sites. Great. Anyone who isn't but see's him and looks him up will almost certainly try myspace. And then, it's done its job. As long as it looks loved and tidy, no probs. And paula, you do a great job of that. *hugs*
