View Full Version : Nick at RAH

Those who heard Nick's interview with Paul on the podcast will already be aware that Nick stated himself that the Levellers had asked him to join them at the Royal Albert Hall this year.

Since I have now put out publicly in an interview with Mark from the Levellers that they will be doing this in September, I am sure you will all be putting 2 + 2 together anyway!

I have, however, decided to hold on the actual date. Just simply because although I did the interview as a journo, it took place with a friend. And out of respect to the Levellers, and to Nick, I'd like to let them have the kudos of choosing when to let it go.

The albert hall eh? That's nice. I'd heard it was full of holes. That's what the beatles said anyway...

About time nick played there (again)!

The only thing i've got to do is figure out how to get sarah there! She has put her foot down and said she's only doing 1 gig a year and she's already done 3... With a possible over summer too it's not looking good.

But it's the royal albert hall i shall say and it'll all be good. Maybe. But yay anyway!

Have you sent william and harry an invite? They'd love the levellers and nick. The bohemian parents line would probably appeal to harry certainly. Dunno if they deserve guest list though. They can afford it. Lol.

Well tell her you're taking her to see the Levs, and plead ignorance when Harper comes on ;)

I know where you're coming from though, Big D said does he have to come tomorrow as he's seen Nick over 50 times (he counted :w00t: ) - I told him he was an amateur

Well yeah obviously - You and I could do that in a tour. :p

Maybe that's a good idea not telling Sarah. I think I could sweeten the deal by taking her to see a show and shopping. I can't really complain though. She likes Nick, but she's not obsessive like I am, so I think I've done quite well anyway.

New pub quiz question eh?

Which quite famous musician played at the Albert Hall in a supporting role in 2007 and now his son is going to play there in 2008? Good PR promo perhaps in the media?? :D

Well I bought the dress cos it was on sale at Target :blushing: (pronouce it Tar-zhay and it sounds classier  ), not for any Harpic-al reasons, more cos IMHO a girl can always use a good party dress at a good price. And see, I was right!

Sadly after much deliberating we have decided we cannot go to this one:mad: - hotel too expensive for a suitable one, and grandparent illness mean we cant plan babysittng too far in advance.

We do however have tickets for this one closer to home http://www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/search/results/0b733da400b72b4beca1fdf1177b4505/ I was kinda hoping that the very special support might be the same?

What reliable sources? Why the secrecy! It's not what the Albert is saying. We picked up our tickets 2 hours ago and they gave us all the timings and they said Nick was on 7.30. Where's the PR, Linn must know for definite. I don't want to miss anything but got to wait for a friend who won't get there before 7.30.

Its annoying when you've bought tickets on the basis of a performance starting at a certain time and been told that by the box office. May not matter to others but one of our friends is coming on train that is booked and it was cutting it fine before but now she and probably me too will miss nearly half Nicks set. And why hes not doing Buxton tonight? Seems like a lot of changes at last minute

scotpaulabear
26-09-2008, 03:21 PM
Sorry but I honestly don't know why the changes, I just got the message and figured I'd better pass it on ASAP! Maybe after Northampton the Levs needed more time for their set... really, I don't know any more. And that sucks about the timings...

(please don't shoot the messenger :bored: )

HarperPR

I blame it all on Mercury having turned retrograde on Wednesday. It's funny but you DO notice more things going awry when it does, particularly communications going astray or delayed, and mechanical and technical problems.

After Nick tomorrow, there *should* be a break then the Levs 8.25 - 9.15. Interval. Then Levs back 9.45 - approx 10.45.

But don't hold me to it. Rough guideline only!

it was a fantastic show! Nick really did well. And when he announced that he was repeating what had happened there with his dad 38 years ago and then brought on his daughter to sing Our House...she did so well too...well it was just awesome, and then at the end he just left the stage. Real Life (STUNNING!)
Treasure Island (fm would remember the 'trevor island' joke from Sleeper Cell at Aldershot)

I'm almost totally unable to post on this gig as I'm still coming down from the high (and the drink LOL). b) He came onstage with the Levs during their first set and played electric for about 30 seconds  I'm finding out the name of the song... he ran offstage afterwards through the band, with Chadwick namechecking him as he fled :D

Well unless Nick's gig was piped through to the bars ... then I doubt many levellers fans will have heard him !!

And the ones who did on the forum I'm on... well, let's just say they didn't love it and leave it at that :bored:

BTW, the Levs song where he played electric was "Lowlands of Holland". And I don't know if I even have a shoe pic so my apologies Critch  When I ran into Nick at the merch desk, I was too happy for him (and slightly pissed!) to look at his feet LOL...

So was it full? What was the atmos like? Was lilly nervous? Any string breaks?

I can post more (with photos tonight) but a) the crowd was kinda sparse but not bad, maybe 1/4-1/3 in, didn't look so bad on the ground level, b) the room sounded AMAZING and the lighting behind Nick (on the pipe organ if you know the room) was magical, hopefully my pics will show that, c) if Lily was nervous you wouldn't really know it, she's a star in the making  and d) not a string break at all, the playing never got quite that fierce!

Thanks to Metway Steve from the Levs crew...

As we make our way to our seats, the vaulted ceilings, comfortable chairs and the multi-tiered vistas of our surroundings divert my attention from tonights support. I have seen Nick Harper a few times in recent years and although I am impressed with his technical abilities, I still find it difficult to warm to his music. As the set reaches his finale, he invites his daughter Lilly on to the stage for a duet. He tells us that this is a family tradition as he once sat on his father Roy's lap at this very venue. Together Nick and Lilly Harper sing the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young song 'Our House'. Her voice is very sweet and compliments his light fret work perfectly.

My pics from the night are here (http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff304/harperspice/RAH270908/)
I think this one is my fave though - sends a shiver down my back just looking at how lovely it looked in there, it all went by too quickly... :bored:

Jon and some of the band/crew were up on that tier to the left of Nick's head watching some of his set.

(Pedants corner: In that eGigs review, shouldn't it be 'Her voice is very sweet and COMPLEMENTS...'?:conehead:)

Paula, I wondered if you may have one or two of Nick @ RAH images that you wouldn't mind being used with an online review?

(As always, I ask for photo credits but the eds don't often give them...)

Sure, it's all good for the cause...

Go ahead and save a few off the Photobucket album (make sure to go to the full size version before you save them) - photo credit would be preferred, do tell me if they end up anywhere ta.

Thanks Marcie, I'm glad it came out reasonably enough to give a taste of how good Lily was. Funny at the end when you can hear El Rose say, 'Paul, is going to be the Roy, Nick and Lily Stormcock website now?'
I'm going to try to upload '38' today.

Not wanting to be a killjoy here ... but I doubt whether Nick would want you to put 38 on youtube ... I recorded him doing it at Cambridge this year ... and although he was saying it in a jokey way ... I could tell that he didn't want it to appear on the internet !!

I appreciate that most artists don't want illegal recordings put up on youtube ... but as Nick is such a friendly guy and approachable ( and hasn't got a major record label fighting his corner ) I just think that we could at least do what he wants in respect of his material ... but that's just my thoughts ?!?

I suspect that, since it's not yet a recorded song, Nick would prefer it not be up for sharing (had a similar discussion with him a few years ago about another song which as yet still hasn't been recorded)... but I don't want to speak for him in this case.

Someone had already put 38 up on You Tube from the Runcorn gig as well.
