Thought he was absolutely excellent last night, the second time I had seen him live.

The Stables is a nice place, Nick played the smaller stage and 60 or 70 of us made for a cosy rather than packed audience. I'm sure he found the feedback limited; there was a genteel feel to the response, but I really think the crowd loved him, it's just more of the quieter South thing.

His set was beautifully paced; both he and Roy tend to feel their way into a gig I think, but share an uncanny ability to draw you in with a combination of musical brilliance and personal warmth.

Standouts were Real Life, Evo, 38 and Love Is Music for me, his playing was astonishing and a first time friend with me, who's played in decent bands for years and seen more live acts than I've had the proverbial hot dinners, pronounced him 'Probably the best male vocalist I've ever heard'!!

Not sure what his record for string breaks in one night is, but they were going left, right and centre last night, which added hugely to the fun. Nick's tales from the Himalayas were a masterpiece of self-deprecation and great humanity, even on a second hearing, and speak volumes for his integrity.

He's also a bloody intelligent and erudite guy.

Roll on the next time.

Sounds like he's feeling better. :) I have given Darren a rider order for extra medication for tonight just in case!:D

What did you think of 38?

One of the highlights, really like the main chord sequence, one of those that sticks in your brain the next morning

He obviously didn't feel 100%, but seemed to sing his way through it by sheer willpower after struggling a bit on the first couple

Given the range and force of his delivery, I really don't know he he manages it

You're going to Runcorn? Wish I were, just too much to do and a busy couple of days ahead.;)

Try and catch the support, my pal Darren Poyzer, and give him a big kiss from me!:D

Pity you can't make it! We're hopefully going to be there about 7.30 so will more than likely catch his set, not so sure about the big kiss Linn
Will there be CD's on sale? Some new fans in tow who want some NH tunes..

It sounds like it was wonderful, Monster, and really intimate. I saw Roy at the Stables last year, it's a curiously 'highbrow' venue, isn't it? both he and Roy tend to feel their way into a gig I think, but share an uncanny ability to draw you in with a combination of musical brilliance and personal warmth.

I couldn't agree more!

I saw that one too, Jane. It was the first time I'd seen Roy live, so it holds a special place.

I really like The Stables, highbrow yes, but comfortable and friendly too. I'm sure it's no coincidence that they've both performed brilliantly there.
