You lot are never serious!:p

What makes a buddy a buddy and what are the benefits? Do they flag up 'your buddy is online' or something?

The buddy list is used to keep track of the friends you have made on this forum. By going to your "Open Buddy List" in "Quick Links" menu of the navbar, you'll be able to see which of your friends are currently online and send them a private message. Adding people to your buddy list also allows you to send private messages to multiple forum members at the same time. You may add any member of the forums to your buddy list by viewing their profile or by going to "Buddy / Ignore Lists" in your "User CP".

Ignore lists are used for those people whose messages you wish not to read. By adding someone to your ignore list, those messages posted by these individuals will be hidden when you read a thread.
Doesn't do much really...

But I can see who's online without making them a buddy. And why would I want to send my buddies multiple messages - unless perhaps I was inviting them all to some swingers party!

Yeah, I got my 'buddy message' so thanks for that. I'll see you next weekend at Sue & Daves place for the 'party', looking forward to swinging with you again soon!

Is the buddy thing now the friends thing? Is it like a mini myspace, where you say thanks for the add and that?

Well basically yes, it's an attempt by the people that write the forum software to introduce some basic social networking bits. I think it's of little or no use to use here in this small community but I could see the value in vast sites of tens of thousands of users, where you'd want to make a circle of friends and keep tabs on their activities...

Bluddy Americanism, if you ask me.

What's wrong with "pal" or "mate" or a good old-fashioned "chum"?

If I said you were a beautiful buddy would you hold it against me?
