So, as another tour draws to a close, perhaps folks would like to share their highs and lows of the Dig On Down Tour, Jan - Mar 2008.
Did Nick rock your world this time round?
Was there one gig or moment that stands out for you?
Feedback, welcome.

I still smile when i think about that st h moment:
Nick - "I was only trying to communicate with them"
Lady in audience - "We did communicate with them. We told them to f**k off."
But if you want real musical moments, probably imaginary friend unplugged at manc, titties and beer at liv, real life at st h and 38 at chester.

I too enjoyed that moment when the crowd told the 3 drunks to F**k Off in unison..I only managed to get to a couple of gigs but Karmageddon, Simple and Real Life were the ones that really stood out for me at St,Helens, and the first time hearing of 38 at Runcorn.

getting to the first night of the tour was cool, would have been even cooler to get to colchester tonight, but sadly not, family problems kinda got in the way.
i got to thank nick for moving planets for me last year and because of him i got published (yea ok only mrkyps.net but they did send out my review on the email list, which i hadnt seen happen before, so it couldnt a been that bad!) also have been inspired by him again!

First things that come to mind...
Nick jumping up and down like a kid with excitement at the Tunnels gig after playing Treasure Island :D
Getting a pic of him standing under the marquee with his name in Glasgow
The custard creams and Maureen in Brum

Best moments:
Listening to Love Is Music etc at Brighton, with tears in my eyes because I was so proud of him and he was just so bloody good that night.
Seeing the 'Wanted' picture of Critch on the wall at the Tunnels!
Hearing 38 for the first time - and every time since.
Seeing Nick do Frank Zappa and Frank Sinatra at Nusha's last night.
The Harperettes on stage at the Tunnels.

After some delay whilst I sorted through several hundred photo's from the whole of the last weekend (not all of Nick!), I've finally managed to get some posted on my blog, here (http://www.stormcock.net/blog/56).
I've some more to get through yet, watch this space.

Yeah, well you watch my space too, Foster, cos you have competition coming! One of my (non-music) clients is paying for a camera for me for work (hush hush secret mission stuff - ha!), so naturally I shall need to get some practise in! And when I do, I shall be there in the pit with ya! Trouble is, I am limited to amount I can spend. Any suggestions anyone?

If funds are a problem, and you're going for an SLR (where you can change the lenses), rather than a compact, unless you want to have to use use flash on everything, spend the money on a good 'fast' lens (wide aperture), rather than a fancy 'bells and whistles' body. Not all venues allow flash for a start, and it would have ruined the atmosphere at Cambridge if I'd been have been flashing away at the side (as it were).
Years ago, I started out with the standard 'kit' lenses and the first gig exposed (npi) their limitations, so I got myself a nice wide (f2.8) zoom, then another, and another. Several hundred pounds apiece for the proper Canon gear though, but there are cheaper alternatives.
I suppose if it's predominantly for non-gig stuff it might be difficult to justify an SLR though, they do tend to be more expensive. Are you able to give an indication as 'official' use and outline of available budget? By PM if necessary, I am a model of discretion, unlike some I could mention!

Er, you won't be having THAT MUCH competition! I am talking Argos job, compact digi. Under £120 probably.
When they say 'movie capture with sound' how does that differ to a camcorder?
What would be the lowest pixies I should go for?
Do they all have a port for linking to computer?

Ah, the laminated book of dreams!

This is somewhat outside my knowledge, but I always think that the 'movie capture' facility is something of an afterthought, just a bolted-on extra. You may find that the resolution, frame rate, and recording time is limited, compared to a camcorder specifically designed to record moving images. Sound quality is also likely to be rather limited.
Whether it's good enough, and how many pixies you need, will depend upon the intended use of the finished product. Up to VGA resolution (640*480) seems common in that price range, probably be OK if it's only going on t'web.
I would say that they will all have some PC connection facility, otherwise you'd never be able to get the data off the camera, which would rather defeat the object.
I'll have to leave any specific recommendations for someone else with more knowledge than I.

I went to Manchester, St. Helens and Brighton. I enjoyed all of them.
Nick had a few technical problems at Manchester but the 'unplugged' Imaginary Friend was excellent. I took a couple of friends to see him and they came away impressed, which is always a good feeling. I always look forward to Nick breaking strings and he didn't disappoint.
It was great to meet up with everyone at the St. Helens gig, and to have a beer with Nick too. Meeting up with forum members is always a great bonus. Good to meet up with you Critch, Sadfish, Linn, Pete. I even ended up giving Nick a lift back to the hotel! The gig itself was initially marred by hecklers but they were soon ejected! Perhaps remembered for the wrong reasons.
Brighton was a great gig. Superb atmosphere. The best of the three. Nick held the crowd captivated. No chat or noise at all from the audience (unlike Manchester & St. Helens). Great performance. Love is Music was awesome. Enjoyed the post-gig drinks too with Nick, Levellers & co. Shame I lost my hotel keys!!!!!
It was a long trip to Brighton but well worth it.
Looking forward to the next tour.

So it seems we all - who were privy to it - agree Brighton was the top of the tour tree this time round.
Of those I saw my top three would be:
1. Brighton
2. London (btw, Linda, we did the Half Moon on the November Naughty Step tour: this time we dug the 100 Club!)
3. Tunnels

Hey - thanks for putting me right Linn. - The last couple of tours have obviously blended into one for me.
Still rate Brighton highest this time round. I dug it Big.

Plenty of great moments. Radio Silence with Jon Gomm in Leeds sticks out, as do a few moments in the Sheffield and Leeds gigs when I realised I'd left my mouth open and wasn't quite sure how long for...
