I know it must have been asked a thousand times, but why do so many contributions have that "Zappy Little Nappy" tag under the name of the contributor?

It is, after all said and done, far from being my favourite line. If asked, I'd prefer "Nipples hang hard", but you pays your money, I suppose.

Ho hum, and all that.

It's all to do with post count... the idea being, the more you post, the better the title you receive. Only I know the thresholds and the titles that have been configured, of course... :sifone:

I hope Paul has something nice in store as I head up to my 500th post!

I was all confused when I first checked this thread because of new posts. 10 Feb or 2 Oct? (I prefer the European dating system, but I spell out the month to not confuse my fellow and female Americans.).

That's why I couldn't figure out at first why everyone's talking about posting milestones they've long since passed.

Roy's a favorite secret I don't want to keep! Don't stop, EVERYBODY! And those times when I clog up half the new posts are just opportunities.

I think T'man is right. I suspect Paul has mixed up the lyrics including obvious and obscure Harperisms. Just perhaps, he's added a few red herrings from Roy's long line of supporting artists. What better way to get fans to buy Roy's Book, read more of it, and complete the collection?

I was happy I bought Bullinamingvase before I reached Capt. Kirk.

Really? All of them? Where do they come from? Such as 'Aye lad...', 'Gracing the Bahamas...', 'Taking my shoes off...'?

"Aye lad, I knew you had it in ya" - Come out Fighting Ghengis Smith

"Gracing the Bahamas, in see-through pyjamas" - Come out Fighting Ghengis Smith (paraphrased)

Can't see any "taking my shoes off" references here??? Probably McGoohans Blues IIRC.

My "Ride away in style" is my Kiss This Guy Moment from the end of Me & My Woman: the actual words are "Right where I stand", but I always heard them as "Ride away in style". It's amazing what a bit of bribery can achieve if you want your own strapline. (Hint: there's a button at the bottom of the screen).

I doubt it - how dare you impugn our leader's integrity!?! (bless you for the coughs). I'm pretty sure it's a genuine quote, reflecting Roy's vivid imagination :-) Just can't remember where. Anyone got a searchable electronic version of Roy's book?

HarperPR

Yes, Trav was right: it IS from McGoohans Blues and it was the prisoner who was taking his shoes off!

Remember how that song opens?

Nicky my child he stands
there with the wind in his hair
Wondering whether the water
the wind of the where
I fear that someday he might
ask me if mine is the blame
And I've got no reply save to tell
him it's all just a game...

A red herring is the sort of thing I'd put in, just to keep people awake and curious. I haven't completely memorized Roy's lyrics yet...:blushing::D

Don't know "AFAIK????"

Thanks, everyone. You've all confirmed for me my next order of old/new Roy will include FOKEJOKEOPUS and GHENGIS to complete my collection of early ROY, and finally hear this McGoohan's Blues everyone raves about (when they're not raving about another song). Planning to get ONCE, and a couple others (undecided) from the later albums I don't have yet. Saving BBC tapes for XMAS.

Any recommendations from UNKNOWN, CAPTIVITY, WORK OF HEART, BURN THE WORLD, LOONY, COMM'L BREAKS, DEATH OR GLORY?, DREAM SOCIETY, TODAY IS YESTERDAY?

This order will officially put ROY on the top of my list in volume of recordings, ahead of ZEP, The Firesign Theatre(satire), Beatles, and Talking Heads.

AFAIK="As far as I know" - a typical British formulation that allows us to assert things while modestly admitting that we are not omniscient...

I love Unknown Soldier and Death Or Glory? out of those listed. DoG is the only must have in that selection. Born in Captivity is better than Work of Heart. Order them from royharper.com and the pair come as a double album.

Just placed my latest order.

I'm disappointed to see "ONCE" is out of stock as this was at top of my list of later ROY based upon various comments. I ended up buying one more CD than I planned, so all is not lost for the shop! Expect around Friday, plus or minus a few days.

Thanks to all for your comments. I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality and consistency of ROY's work through the ages, considering the sheer volume over other musicians/songwriters. Roy will always be a fave!

Just a little add on NC:
I have ordered quite a lot of albums from Roy's site, and usually add in the notes/comments section a request to sign my CD's and now have an excellent signed collection. Little touches like this from Roy and Tracy mean a lot, he is a man of the people and looks after his fans, excellent postal service too, they never take more than 2 or 3 days to arrive from Ireland

Now you tell me! I thought I was special cuz Tracy signed a note to me after all the trouble getting my first order to go through.

I order over weekends and they arrive from 4-8 days later, North of Chi-Town. I always add my thanks and/or a short comment, but didn't want to impose. I wonder how long 'til ONCE is available?

And the pin-striped sardine-cum-magician is packed in his train
Censoring all of the censorship filling his brain
He glares through his armour-plate vision and says "Hmm, insane"
The prisoner is taking his shoes off to walk in the rain
