As you will hopefully have seen, the second podcast is now out. I took a lot more care over the audio this time and I think the levels are generally better. It is surprisingly hard to get this sort of thing right. Makes me think that audio engineers earn their money!
I had a new piece of equipment this time around too, a DBX 266XL compressor/expander. It makes my voice more even in amplitude and also gates off background noise from the environment when I'm not speaking. The effect should be relatively subtle but is meant to make it all a bit more "radio-like".
I used skype with the SkypeOut landline calling facility to do the interview with Nick Lane along with "Audio Hijack Pro" on my macbook. I'm very pleased with how this turned out actually, some SkypeOut conversations I've had in the past have made the other party sound rather like a Dalek. Though, of course, that would be quite interesting and funny in its own right.
