Oh goody! Here's a fun game to play before I look at the BOMfest thread
Justin Currie - http://www.myspace.com/justincurrie (former Del Amitri lead singer)
Gavin Moore - http://www.myspace.com/mooregavin (great singer/songwriter, cohort of Matt Churchill and nephew of Christy Moore and the aforementioned Luka Bloom  )
Hayley Hutchinson - http://www.myspace.com/hayleyhutchinson (fab songstress, opened for Nick a few years ago - and her new album's out this week, yay!)
Amplifico - http://www.myspace.com/amplifico (great Edinburgh band - check out lead singer Donna Maciocia's page linked from there as well, she often puts up her demos)

I know I should probably not keep picking up young men, but these are my latest protegees:

Out of Nottingham, moody shoegaze stuff. I caught them live recently by accident and was impressed enough to make contact.
Listen to We Are Gone - loud with headphones preferably; by the second listen, you're hooked. I can't remember if As Guilty As is up here, but that's 3 mins of guitar and drums before vox kick in. Sublime stuff.

Xavier is touring here in Australia soon - I think he spends a lot of time with his Canadian family, also. Very engaging performer. If you like XR you might like Ash Grunwald:

If you really like John Butler and his trio, you should hear his album "Three". It is so much better than the newer material, especially a track called "Take".
cheers,
Pete

I remember at some point there was a reference on here to Richard and Linda Thompson. Where and when? Who knows! But was their fantastic son mentioned? (Do they have three?)
Teddy Thompson. Billed as rock/folk/pop on MySpace, but sounds like a real soulboy on In My Arms. I am blown away by him. And, what's more, I now have my birthday sorted as he's over here and touring Sep/Oct! Yowzer.
