View Full Version : where to live?

I'm about 2 weeks away from England, the prospect is not filling me with joy... anyway I'm just wondering where to live?

I like the idea of being coastal, and somewhere with music and cafes is a must. Brighton springs to mind (I'll never do London again). But Brighton is big (for me) and someone suggested Bournemouth as an alternative. This got me to thinking, maybe there's some 'cool spot' that I don't know about (not having lived in the UK for 15 years or so).

Any suggestions? I enjoyed my time in Galway and wondered about even moving to Ireland for a while.

(To say I'm freaking out about my return is an understatement, life is so much simpler on the road....)

how about Liverpool? Right on the coast. Lots of music and stuff, easy train to Manchester. Only a couple of hours drive to north Wales, pennines, peak district, lake district.

Well, I'll be moving to the Worthing/Lancing area in less than two weeks. Not quite Brighton, but definitely close and definitely coastal!

Good luck!

Pompey can offer coast and cafés aplenty. Some of our "greasy spoon" establishments are among the best in the county.

so why you coming back....? doesn't sound like you particularly want to.... crikey, if i wasn't shackled to the old place, i doubt i'd live here...

scottish highlands/islands, maybe...? suffolk's lovely, too!

Depends what you want really. Exeter looks a good bet if you like Show of Hands!... lovely coast within 10 miles, avocets in the estuary, easy access to Dartmoor and God's Wonderful Railway (pity about First, who run it)... Yes, Brighton's good, too.

Actually, I suppose I don't really want to, but I have to... at least for a while. I thought about giving the UK a go again but one's location makes more of a difference in the UK than it does in the USA, Australia and NZ. I'm not sure I can really explain that, but it seems right somehow.

Thanks for the suggestions too, I know it probably seems like an odd question, but it's nice to see the names of places that had appealed to me, and some different ones too.

:D

hi,
i must admit it did seem like a strange question at first. but the more i think about it, it doesn't.
especially as you've been away so long.
i'm quite happy with my settled down life, but there's always a little bit of me that wonders..... what if.....

anyhow, even if you don't end up staying long, i hope it's a positive experience!

all the best,
bob

Maybe the BBC have been listening in...

"The most sparsely populated county in Wales is where you will find Britain's happiest place, say researchers...."

It's not exactly rocket science is it? :D (Probably why I prefer Oz and the USA, there's plenty of room and that makes a huge difference to the quality of life.)

Maybe this is where I should end up! Powys eh, hmmmmm :D (Oddly enough Hereford and the area was on my 'list of possibles').

You should have put a bid in on Roy's old place!

If you're still interested in the Brighton area, there's a nice £2 million pad down the road at Hove on offer - with the ex Mrs Macca and Zoe Ball as neighbours.:). Or if you're over in time for Nick's Boscombe gig on the 6th, you could combine with a Bournemouth recce!

Imagine what the entire country could be like, were it not for the 'crowds'... ever increasing.

If you are passing thru Hampshire on the way to Powys then you can stay here for the night on your sojourney.
