Hi
Just wanted to say "hello" and a big thankyou for providing this very interesting forum.
I'm from Australia and Roy is one of my favourite musicians. My favourite albums are Stormcock, Jugular, Life Mask and Archives of Oblivion.
I am a songwriter guitarist myself and can play a few of Roy's songs. I particularly like discovering the alternate guitar tunings Roy uses, such as DADGAD. Any tips from other guitarists would be great!
Cheers J

I believe that Aaro's website is the place to go for Roy's tunings and tbs etc. I don't have the reference handy but I bet you can find it on the stormcock.net site somewhere. (Aaro is Finnish, so you can see that Roy's appeal is truly international).
Welcome aboard!

It feels to me like everyone on this site plays guitar, writes songs, and/or wishes they did. I said something similar to your quote my first visit (six weeks ago). We don't mean to sound like we're bragging, nor completely amateurish, and we're probably leery of releasing our best original material on a "free" website (especially if it's rejected or downloaded a million times).
I wish we fans of Roy could try writing something as a group taking turns contributing lyrics and/or music. :m9:
The best TIP is always practice, practice, practice...
For Singers, the vocal chords are like any other music, they need exercise (and don't forget to practice breathing and taking deep breaths).
Being American, I'm not sure what qualifies as "skiffle" music. Roy's style combines so many elements. I should take lessons in Classical guitar to be more like ROY. :m8:
Good luck and Welcome, Jugular!
(P.S. Actually, it might be interesting to be rejected a million times!)

Hey - Welcome No Celeb (belated) and Jugula and all new members.
Over the past 8 years fans of Roy have shown what a remarkable lot they are. There are currently three 'Splinters' Cd's that are compilations of the material written and primarily performed by members of the old Stormcock mailing list. The name for the cd came from a quote by Roy - Sinking in the Splinters of the Ecstacy of Sound - 1967.
Our first one was produced in 2000 and started off as a competition which was won by Adam Leonard singing and playing The Great Roy Harper. Paul has used this on previous podcasts. The night before Roy's 60th birthday, we all got together in Covent Garden London where most of the tracks on Number 1 were performed. Great night!!!
If there are not too many takers, I can provide copies of these if anyone wants to mail me privately.

How many times have we got to say hello to everyone again and again?
Hello! Hello! Hello! Is that enuf?
Reminds me of Winston Churchill's reply when a lady told him his flies were undone!

On the stormcock-vines mailing list, Splinters 1 & 2 were vined and ended up as orphans chez Jacobs. So if anyone wants to inherit these, they just need to email me: rjacobs@cix.co.uk Not that Linda's offer isn't valid or appreciated :-)
