I watched this film again last night. I'd forgotten how wonderful it is. See it if you haven't already. The comic it's based on is wonderful also. It was written during the bleak Thatcherite years in Britain, with all the wonderful little invasions into privacy and erosion of civil liberty that ensued.
So little has changed.
I want a world where governments fear the people, not the other way round.
I want a world where people watch TV to educate and enlighten themselves.
I want a world where people look out for each other and hold out the hand of friendship.
I don't want "reality" TV, ID cards, private health schemes, government sponsored paranoia, dumbing down, mean-spirited negative looking ill-minded self-obsessed self-serving smug arrogant politicians.
I just want to live and let live. Why should that be so difficult?
I am not a number. I am a person.
