Bob Jacobs
30-10-2008, 07:23 PM
and put a "book page" on the community website with the latest version on it. Second thoughts, keep it updated and just point forum readers at it with a link.

Just a suggestion but I think it's how Paul would like to do it, given the way he's designed the site. I think it will be easier for readers too. Don't know about everyone else but when I visit the forum I tend to look at the ends of the recently updated threads first, then only work back if I think it looks interesting, pausing on Andi's only to raise my blood pressure :-)

Bob

dim

yeh, just re-edit the first post each time to update it.. by march/april when people have posted multiple times in here about which gigs they are going to etc where is the actual tour list going to be...

page 1? page 3? page 7? page 32?

see the problem..

scotpaulabear
31-10-2008, 08:33 AM
Okay there are benefits both ways :D Some kind of book/wiki page anyone can update would be good, plus you can still add the gig to this thread and say you've updated the gigs page...

Saying it's best to update the first post in this thread means either a mod has to do it or we're assuming it's always Ms. PR who will find the gigs

I do too, Bob. People can see that it is an Update by looking at the subject box.

It's not a competition anyway, about who puts what where. And no one will be in any danger of missing a gig next year because they haven't heard about it.

Once Nick has fully confirmed all the dates he will put those up on his website. I am not putting here any which aren't already on the net and tickets on sale for (even though I'm dying to because there are some nice special ones....), as I know that some venues will not be announcing until after New Year.

Marcie
11-11-2008, 08:26 PM
...that Paul has a gig that very same night in Letchworth...

If it were closer to home, I'd pass on that and come to the Brighton gig solo. But as this is further north, it gives us a chance to have a badly needed weekend away together.

So, as a consolation - unless a closer gig comes along - we're going to shoot for the Half-Moon gig on May 2.

I am sure you'll meet lots of 'locals' here, the Half Moon, Marcie (and yes, I did see your post here before your text!), but shame about your not being able to do Brighton.

But for both Brighton (small venue) and London (sold out before night last time), I would strongly advise that people don't leave ticket buying until the night as there may well not be any!

Marcie
12-11-2008, 02:31 PM
Thanks, Linn... it will be good to see everyone there.

It is a damn shame about Brighton, especially when it's round the corner from me.

I saw that tix for Half Moon are 10 quid a pop so shouldn't be a problem ordering them online a bit in advance....

what credit crunch.....?

has nobody noticed yet...recession does not effect the poor...

oh, the poor sods with the £2k a month mortgage that suddently goes up to £2.5k a month.. theyre screwed, but us poor sods with £50 a week disposable income, no car, no mortage, no credit card bills, we are really up the creek when our local restaurant pushes the price of pizza and a pint up from £7 to £7.50 :D

Linn,

You've just reminded me ... who organises the support act ? i.e. does Nick get a say in it or is it the venues choice ... or maybe even yourself ? Reason why I ask, is that I have someone in mind for one of the gigs that hasn't been officially announced yet ... and just wondered if it's worth telling someone ( you/nick/venue ) about them beforehand ?!?

Chris.

I averaged £75 a day including airfares, and for the first time ever on my travels I was watching the budget as the prices were incredible (literally), the cheapest accommodation, the minimum amount of food, no extravagances.

If I had to go back for a week I'd be off Tahiti in a flash as it's a hole, probably head to Moorea and stay there.

Have a great trip though....

I put dates here when tickets on sale/ confirmed by venue and/or up on the net. I do keep saying that the forum is the place to look first!:biggrin:

btw, noticed Nick's MySpace not logged into since Dec 3. I think it might need a health check from when I looked a week ago...:) I am happy to give Paula a hand if it's a bit time-consuming. I think the best thing for the front page is to wait until they are up on the main site. That way you have all the full tour dates together, confirmed and set.

I know fans want to know what's happening well in advance to make travel and financial plans etc for gigs, but sometimes dates get changed at the last minute or ticket prices are still being sorted so that's why they tend to go up all as a whole on harperspace.

Just out of interest, is there a site that you could upload them all to - i.e. like flickr or kodak or something that one could then order prints from? The ones I've suggested just deal with photos as far as I'm aware, but it might be useful for people if they're going to flyer, just to go online themselves and order a few hundred flyers! Certainly could have been easier for me when I was doing it in St H last year!

erm.. could do.. not sure how financially viable it would work out..

one part of b&w is that it can be fairly cheaply photocopied or printed from either the pdf or the jpeg for about 5p-10p a copy... 100 b&w copies is about a fiver... cheap as chips, i find kall kwick are by far the best for copying b&w.. independants tend to be very tight on toner and you end up with grey posters.. ;) kall kwicks are always lovely crisp black... the last tour ones used in exeter where superb.. dont be scared if you go somewhere, ask for a single copy and if your not happy with it TELL THEM.. your the customer, your asking for a service... KK in exeter know not to mess.. i get lovely black copies every time.. ;)

if you can find me somewhere online that can roll em out cheaper than that then i will upload the images there...

(just looked.. flikr dont print for uk, and there partners are damn expensive... ive had a good loook round at flyer printers as your looking £50 per 1k ish, cos they automatically price for full colour, and the colour version of the posters was binned by the boss...)

if you can find somewhere im happy to put them there, but if costs are to be reasonable, b&w is far cheaper...

See what ya can come up with mate.. ;)

Having got quite attached to my working Inca title, an explanation for the flyers title.

One of the 38 works on three levels: it refers to the stupendous song of the same name (at present anyhow), relates to the epic LHS Everest trek and the number of participants...and...(if anyone hasn't yet spotted it!) why I left the 2 Scottish dates off to start was not to give away that there would be how many?...yes, 38 gigs.:) So each show is - 'one of the 38'! I don't have time right now, but there were a few ideas Dim and I have been discussing, so he if he reads this first before I get back to it maybe he can put up those points (can you, Dim?:)).

dim
17-01-2009, 04:07 PM
one thing that has been discussed is getting all the gigs listed onto skiddle
www.skiddle.com

so far exeter is on there and bar 1:22 and glee club have both been put on... would be good to get them all up there as skiddle send out regular emails to a lot of people (for instance just within 50 miles of exeter there are more than 2500 members) - long job to get all 38 on there though..

if people have half an hour to spare, and could register there and start putting the gigs on it would be really good...

probably better if people pick 4 or 5 to put up on there and post here first, so that others dont duplicate it...

quite a good write up on the glee one that could be used if people need some text...>>>
"There are guitarists. And there are guitarists. And then there’s the man they call Harpic. Nick Harper.A virtuoso guitarist whose unique style, distinctively soulful voice and passionate delivery combine for a live performance that is at one spontaneous, enthralling and emotionally-charged. Biting satire, charmingly caustic wit and covers of anything from Zappa to Zeppelin, place Harper a league apart from anyone you may have seen or heard before. He’s worked with artists as diverse as Dizzee Rascal, the Levellers, Jimmy Page, Squeeze and, of course, his father, the celebrated folk artist Roy Harper. And played on stages from Glastonbury and the Royal Albert Hall, to Base Camp, Mt Everest and on the High Andean Inca Trail at Machu Picchu. A folk troubadour. An acoustic balladeer. With a touch of rock’n’roll on the side. As one journalist commented: “Go and see this man live and then you will fully appreciate the intense virtuosity of his guitar-playing, his soulful singing, the intimate brilliance of his song-writing and the bloody funny way he puts it all across.” What more could you ask?"

Only *quite a good write-up*? I thought it was VERY good: I writ it.:D

Further to what Dim said, it'd be fantastic if everyone could muck in in some way and get this tour to sell out - 38 times!

Another idea from Sir Dim was if we could possibly get some hands on board with flyer distribution. Andi, for example, could you put a flyer on the events noticeboard at your Basingstoke library for that gig? Same in other venue towns: libraries, TICs, record stores, handing out if you're at a gig at the venue before - anywhere that's applicable.

Dim, could people do a basic printer/photocopier job on these flyers?

as for photocopying.. refer to my post about a page ago, places like kall kwik are good, theyre cheap but they dont skimp on toner, and you actually get black posters.. go to your local corner shop or wherever and they skimp on toner and you get grey wishy washy posters on cheap paper...

On the Skiddle site, shall we see how many different pics of Nick we can get up there!

Of the other listings sites, I'm ploughing through Ents 24, LastFM, Upcoming Yahoo, Brit Events, Where Can We Go and Gumtree.

There's Remote Goat and Gig Junkie that I haven't touched yet - anyone able to put some dates up on those? Also, local newspaper forums and town/county community forums.

Because Central Studio Basingstoke don't seem to have a valid email address and Basingstoke don't exist on Remote Goat's town lists you can't include them as a venue on a RG prefixed postcode. Will try and get their email addy when I'm passing that way tomorrow unless you have extra resources at your fingertips of finding it? Have emailed Remote Goat [what a name!] to include Basingstoke on their town listings as well.

Have entered it on Gig Junkie and had to curtail Description because of length of blurb. Now bloody Gig Junkie have told me there's been an error which they have to investigate and get back to me [tomorrow prob?]. Maybe I didn't enter a www. destination to order tickets? Central Studio do apologise that their Internet option ain't up to scratch at the moment. This is getting more complicated as it goes along but am learning fast!

Like the pic with The Vic listing on Skiddle. Whose is it? Can I use too?

You missed out an 'r' in the name, did you notice? They get to you after a bit, typing them out again and again. I did one on LastFM and missed an 'N' so he turned out as 'ick'!

I haven't had time to register there, but are we able to go back and edit/add photo once posted? Be nice to get a pic with Basingstoke too.

one thing that has been discussed is getting all the gigs listed onto skiddle
www.skiddle.com

so far exeter is on there and bar 1:22 and glee club have both been put on... would be good to get them all up there as skiddle send out regular emails to a lot of people (for instance just within 50 miles of exeter there are more than 2500 members) - long job to get all 38 on there though..

if people have half an hour to spare, and could register there and start putting the gigs on it would be really good...

probably better if people pick 4 or 5 to put up on there and post here first, so that others dont duplicate it...

quite a good write up on the glee one that could be used if people need some text...>>>
As one journalist commented: “Go and see this man live and then you will fully appreciate the intense virtuosity of his guitar-playing, his soulful singing, the intimate brilliance of his song-writing and the bloody funny way he puts it all across.” What more could you ask?"

i shall endevour to do a few later..

Can you have a look at how your Skiddle listings are doing in terms of views.

Of those I put up, last total view count was 545 with the 5 leaders being:
Worcester (93), Hereford (77), Portsmouth (69), Bristol (61), Brighton (59).

If we only get one ticket sale from each it'd be a plus!

Listings are one thing. If you look at the separate venue threads in this forum, all the info you should need for various dates are there. They have all been confirmed and verified by the promoter. Some details may not be up on the venue's site, but if it's up here it means I have spoken with them and they are aware we're rolling out what they have verbally confimed.:)

Hope not all 5,686 turn up! That'd be a squish and a half! Mind you, if that's the taking around there they need an arena....Echo arena, manchester evening news arena..and you know what's coming...skipton reporter arena!

It's true as I sit here watching the screen. Skiddle web visits - Buxton 5,745 , Basingstoke 248. Was going to phone Skiddle [or you can] and ask them to check what the hell is going on. Perhaps you put up Bilston instead? Perhaps web searchers are putting in Buxton mountain water and it's getting transfered to Nick's mountain exploits or something?

PS Linn you could post a note about Nick's tour on the Manchester City football site from the last pod notes. There definitely are some Harper fans there and t'would be a good bit of publicity...we may have to hire their football ground though to cope with the crowds turning up?! Roy may even turn up! How proud he would feel watching his son perform at Maine Road!!

PPS Yeah Buxton just jumped right up in the last 3 days..hadn't checked it for a while so don't if it was cumulative or a glitch. I would seriously phone Skiddle and query the fact.

PPPS And check the ticket sales/requests at the Venue maybe? I see Newcastle Cluny listed twice.

Yes, you're right, I didn't do that one!

Hell's bells....5,745!:w00t:

There has to be something going on...?:confused1: No way, can that be right. Was that all of a sudden it jumped up massively?

I wonder if the infamous Dickie Burn has been there...?:D

Manchester City??? Dunno if I can go there!:D. If you or anyone else wants to put something up, that's fine.

PPPS And check the ticket sales/requests at the Venue maybe? I see Newcastle Cluny listed twice - please explain?

Please note that posts regarding the tour should now go in the brand new, shiny (waffle-free!) thread below on this forum.
