View Full Version : Nick Harper forums offline
The Nick Harper forums (at http://www.harperspace.co.uk/cgi-bin/board/ikonboard.cgi) are currently off-line due to an issue with the internet provider. I am told that efforts are under way to fix this.

Thanks for spreading the word Paul! I'm a wee bit grumpy this morning as a result :cuss: but let's all think good thoughts that this can get sorted out soon in my non-existant free time :D

Hi Critch, sorry man, meant to text you back! My hands are tied at the moment for reasons I can't really go into - plus I'm not the forum 'owner' as such. I've got to try to get more information on what's happened and what can be done about it. I feel very out of my depth! But I know that there are some great people around who can help once I untangle this nonsense, and I appreciate that :D

Well good luck anyways. Gimme a shout when things start working out or as I said, if you want anything!

Hi all, I don't know what's going on but the boards are back. Will keep looking into how to keep them that way :D

Hi Paula,
Thanks for the update. :)
I just tried accessing the board, but I got a screen with a message, "sorry the boards are offline, we'll do our best.. etc", along with a login dialog box for administrators only. I tried logging in there with no luck. Could it be that as you're an administrator, you've somehow got access?
Anyway.. that's what I see from this end.. anyone else?
Same here, Marcie. I think the board is in maintenance mode. Dunno if Paula has the power to flick the switch...

Hi all, that's the problem, I was already logged in with my admin username, that's why I saw it. Damn. :blushing: At least it's got the holding message now. *eye roll*
I wish I did have the power, but I don't think I do. Still waiting for info!

Well at least something is happening I guess! It'll work out I'm sure! The web is a mystical place it seems...

It occurs to me I may be able to email everyone from within the service, but I'll have to have something important to say first haha. Stay tuned...

Aww . I miss being a curmudgeonly old git on Harperspace. I might have to start doing it here instead.
Good luck Paula, hope we're back soon.

Hi guys, back from my jolly, and I'm not even getting the holding page now, I'm being given a different error page - and I can't log out to check if it's just me as an admin (I can't get in anymore) - can someone please let me know what you're seeing?
I'm bummed out :crying:
Right now I'm getting:
Error 403 - Forbidden
You tried to access a document for which you don't have privileges.

Everyone alright? Had a pleasant night in Derby yesterday by the way...

Folks,
Just noticed that if you click the "forums" link on Nick's website, it takes you directly to the Stormcock home page.
Which is definitely a good thing because thanks to Paul, we "homeless" Harperspace cadets have found a lovely new dwelling.
But.. does that mean it's the end for harperspace.co.uk? :( Paula.. any news on that front?

You're on the ball as always, Marcie! What would we do without you.:grouphug: Any more Google alerts?
I think it's nice here. Very civilised and respectful. And no BAD LANGUAGE! ha ha ha!
I had no idea that had been done! It actually points to the Nick section of the main stormcock site, which makes a lot of sense.
I have offered Paula space on the server that runs this site and have offered to help with the possible migration of old posts and accounts if they can be retrieved from the old site. Whether this is possible and whether it will happen, I can't say. I would be perfectly happy for all the Nick fans to come here of course, but I can also understand why he might want a forum that's standalone and not associated with his Dad. I also registered the domain "harperspace.net" just in case it wasn't possible to get control of that domain back from the original guy. Don't bother going there now though :)
Paul.

Haha! Still getting quite a few actually.. but they're all pointing to old news so I'm not bothering with them. Maybe I'll change the key words to something more up to date.

Best of luck with all the efforts, Paul.. and of course Paula. :) It'd be a shame to lose all the archived messages on that other site. But.. we do seem to have found a lovely home here! And of course I can get back on track following Roy's comings and goings as well. A win/win situation if I say so myself!

How did i miss all the activity in this page yesterday?
Hi all! Lets get those posting fingers ready! I think we need a thought for the day thread! Off topic, or General?

Hey Critch - Linn started one in the off-topic section. See ya there.. :)

I was just going to point that out! That's was Critch's favourite thread I think before. Funny you think of it though at same time near enough that I did!

What can I say.. you guys seem to be kindred spirits.
Well it seemed to be a lot of people's favourite thread, hence the 800 or so posts..

It was definately one of my favourite threads! It always reminded me of that character in the fast show who comes out of his shed and says "this week, i've mainly been eating..."
And thanks marcie, i've now found it. :)

HAHA! My fave was the guy coming out looking extra mucky and saying, "This week I will mostly be wearing Dolce and Gabbana"

Yeah I guess we do know how each other's minds work a bit - after all, we were once engaged don't forget! He has been a real godsend to Nick and I with all that he has done this year, and I have a strong feeling that that will be continuing into 2008.

Haven't seen her here virtually yet, but did do in the flesh at Nick's Cambridge gig - which was a nice surprise.:)
