View Full Version : Patrick McGoohan
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Patrick McGoohan, an Emmy-winning actor who created and starred in the cult classic television show "The Prisoner," has died. He was 80.
McGoohan died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a short illness, his son-in-law, film producer Cleve Landsberg, said Wednesday.
McGoohan won two Emmys for his work on the Peter Falk detective drama "Columbo," and more recently appeared as King Edward Longshanks in the 1995 Mel Gibson film "Braveheart."
But he was best known as the title character Number Six in "The Prisoner," a surreal 1960s British series in which a former spy is held captive in a small village and constantly tries to escape.
I'm very upset.

I'm very upset.
I'm a bit to young to remember the prisoner. But I do remember columbo - and still watch it if it's on and I'm at a loose end. As far as cop shows go, I don't think it has dated too badly at all. I guess that owes itself to the fact it never got too wrapped up in technology. I wonder how popular shows at the moment like CSI and my personal current favourite, House would stand up after 20 years? Certainly I imagine that computer technology will have moved on by a long long way if the last 20 years is anything to go by. I suppose the 70's equivalent of CSI would be something like Quincy, and while I still quite like it, it is very dated.

I'm a big fan of Patrick McGoohan and Peter Falk too, another great loss to the 60's & 70's TV cult following!

This really upset me too... :bored:
I remember watching The Prisoner with my papa when I was just a teenager and both of us loving how cool and unique it was, maybe my first taste of surrealism (okay, that and Monty Python  )
I've just been watching a TV interview with Patrick from the 70s and I think some of you would like it. It really draws out some of the concepts behind the series, and features the most intelligent and well behaved audience I think I have ever seen... it just goes to show how incredibly dumbed down modern TV has become.
There are four parts on youtube, you can find the rest by following the related links on the first part:
