I've signed up to do Avebury Rocks, too! Been wanting to get more exercise and lose some weight, so it's giving me something to work towards that's really worthwhile as well! Slowly training up and really looking forward to it. http://www.justgiving.com/dotjayrocksavebury (Just Giving URL inspiration shamelessly yoinked from scotpaulabear!) See y'all there!
Jon, you are more than welcome to yoink my URL (ooh err) for such a good cause  On a sad note, my cousin's husband has just been diagnosed with thyroid cancer - and this cousin's sister is also in chemo at the moment, both of them under 40! - plus my great aunt has skin cancer and it may have spread. Not a good time :crying: At least I'm back in Boston in a few weeks to see them... just reminds me why I'm doing this again, but less reminders would be preferred please!
*hugs Paula* It's going to be an emotional walk, I feel. Many of us will have personal reasons for taking part. I look forward to meeting people on the walk and hearing their stories. So, the TA are giving people piggy backs over parts of the walk, right? Right?!

Avebury song? New song by Nick? Avebury Song also known as Holiday on Earth or Sacred Dirt. Played at Bristol and Manchester apparently. And a spontaneous one called Invisible Cowboy. http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/nick-harper/2011/the-folk-house-bristol-england-3bd3c040.html Andi
Avebury Rocks I know lots of people on here are taking part. But if not, and if you haven't sponsored anyone yet, Joy and I have a just giving site. http://www.justgiving.com/Col-JoyLane thanks, Colin.
Nice one, Colin! Should I combine this thread with the Avebury thread in the live shows forum, or do you want to leave it separate?
Hi Paula, yes please post it anywhere, we're all trying to raise money for the same thing. Not going to Willowman, so see you at Avebury X
Hey Andi, Yeah, Nick played the song about Avebury at the Bristol gig I went to… I really liked it. I can't remember all the lyrics now, but it has a wonderful chorus, with the lines "I'll see you at the stones", ending with "On Holiday on Earth". I didn't catch the song's name, so I just called it "Avebury Song" on setlist.fm, figuring I'll come back and fix it later. It's most likely called "Holiday on Earth", but I remember the chorus also mentioning something about us all being "sacred dirt". Will have to ask Nick about it on the walk. The "Invisible Cowboy" was, as Nick admitted before he played it, a bit of an experiment. Possibly something in the works, possibly something completely made up on the spot. Jon
I don't think there's a particular chorus, just a number of verses which begin: 'I've got a feeling in my bones That I'll see you at the stones' ... and end with various lines containing 'Sacred Dirt/On holiday on earth.' Apologies for my non-songwritery description if I've got anything wrong. There is a video of this from Manchester which is awaiting Nick's final approval before it goes on general release (and I don't know what its official title is either, yet). Very nice little number which has been floating round my brain whilst out testing the ancient legs in preparation for the 9th of July, it seems to fit the rhythm of a gentle stroll rather well.
I cannot get this song out of my head - love it, it's really moving! Pretty sure I filmed it in Glasgow (haven't had a chance to see how it came out as I left town not long after!), I will transcribe when I have a chance to make sure I have the lyrics right...
Here's the (approximate) words to "Holiday on Earth" - and it's even more moving in person (wish my video had come out well!)... I've got a feeling in my bones That I'll see you at the stones And after all we'll get to say That we spent one sunny day Of our precious, precious time With the other worldly wise Stood on sacred dirt On holiday on earth I've got a feeling in my bones That I'll see you at the stones And we'll join up all the lines That lay between our busy lives Feel the spirit in the land And cup that feeling in our hands To know the real reason why We pump our fists up to the sky We're holding sacred, sacred dirt And we're on holiday on earth I've got a feeling in my bones That I'll see you at the stones And we'll watch the ships arising As they fly on up above Beyond our mind's eye's horizon Sending back a little love By the metaphysic postman The genetic messenger On a postcard from forever To the sacred dirt On holiday on earth I've got a feeling in my bones That I'll see you at the stones And we'll walk a 20 mile circle And ride this life just like a cycle There will be no pain nor hurt Cos after death there comes a birth And it's not about the destination But the sweat inside your shirt And we're all coming from... And we're all going to... Sacred, sacred dirt The sacred, sacred dirt We are sacred, sacred dirt We're all sacred, sacred dirt And we're on holiday We're on holiday We're on holiday on earth Holiday on earth We're on holiday on earth We're on holiday We're on holiday We're on holiday on earth
Nearly a week to go Nearly a week to go until Avebury and all registration information has either been emailed or posted. If you still want to join us on the walk please email me asap as places are limited. see you at the registration xxxx
Hi - is the route page on the website ( http://www.aveburyrocks.com/?page_id=16) going to be updated before the event ? Might be useful for people who don't get to the start in time ( ie folk like us who are aiming to get up at 5:00am on a Saturday .... something I've only ever done once before ... and that was for the Snowdon trek last year - but this year, there won't be lots of people urging us up - just three blokes who would love a lie in !! ) I use this excellent site for planning walks out and you can even save the walks as GPX files - so folk can load them into their GPS device or just back on to the website - VERY handy !! http://maps.nmc-ramblers.org.uk/Alt_Bing/PlanWalkMMAMenu.php
it will be updated but everyone needs to get there on time otherwise they do not get a laminate and then they cannot access to the gig without a laminate or paying for a ticket. Everyone needs to be there on time
Avebury Hi there Can you just check my registration please. Thought I processed it in early January and now cannot trace anything? Andi:bored::confused1: Aha # apparently I'm walker number 4 now! But not received latest info on walk etc..
