Festive cock fifty 2010

I have already received a number of submissions - so
might as well get started with THE FESTIVE COCK FIFTY 2010

People still say that nothing good comes out anymore – well I say you are wrong – 2010 has been another incredible year for new releases from old faves, new bands & re-issues. I find myself buying more & more new stuff - & the Festive Cock is a great way of finding out what is out there….

    These are the rules:

Any album released in any format in 2010 can be
    included.

    This DOES include reissues.

You send me your top 10 or top 7 or top 3 or
whatever of the year. You don’t have to have bought it – but you should have at least listened to it a few times – or why would you vote for it?

I write them down in my large cock book (!)

I add em up & work out the top 50ish. Published
on the mailing list on 31st December.
Usually an album will need 2 or 3 votes to get into
    the bottom of the charts.

we all get to chat about what people are voting for
& some of us even go out & buy some of them that we
haven't got - I promise you our communal taste is damn
    good.

SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE 28th DECEMBER (allowing for
    Xmas present last minute votes)

I will publish the chart on 30th Dedcember as I am going to sunny places for New Year (well Barcelona)

we all live happily ever after & the world is a
    better place etc

please email me your votes on jfel2@yahoo.co.uk

    thanks

    James

Can we stick em up here, Jim and you collate, as it would be fun and of interest to see what people are going for?

    Keeping it secret

I've always deliberately not got people to stick them up before the chart comes out - as I think that influences other people when they see what is being voted for & ruins the big surprise I do at the end - that's why I get people to email me direct.

I can't stop people discussing albums in advance but I prefer it afterwards & then I can say cryptic things like: " Only a handful of lists received so far & they all include the same album on them... but what? " which is true for Festive Cock 2010

Had to listen to a lot of crap this year, and even more pretty average. But these were the stand-outs:

    EXIT CALM - Exit Calm
    STORNOWAY - Beachcomber's Windowsill
    VILLAGERS - Becoming A Jackal
    BEACH HOUSE - Teen Dream
    ARCADE FIRE - The Suburbs
JOHN GRANT - Queen of Denmark

bigchris Aye lad, I knew you had it in you

So you basically asked James if we should post our suggestions on this website ... he said NO ... but then you do it anyway ?!?!?

    Jim Computer stained fingers

    True and

But 2 of my fave albums of the year are on there & I now feel obliged to vote for them!

aggghhhh the psychological issues associated with a fun festive count down...

SHAUN I It's so clear on the wings of the dawn

With all the music I currently listen to Linn, I'm not sure if I have the time to invest in the "stand outs" of lots of crap and pretty average bands. I find I listen to the amazing stuff I already know, having said that, I've also discovered some real gems over the last couple of years, will check out some of your stand out recomendations, :cheers2:

Free speech n all! We have previous years put on here, so since few agree with my musical tastes here, I doubt there will be a massive block vote on Stornoway et al. Anyway, I only said they stood out, never said I was voting for.

LOL! I didn't mean they were the best of the rubbish! John Grant you may like. Also The Boy Who Trapped The Sun.

Yeah it wasn't the fact that you posted your list, I was just amused that you asked if it was ok ... but then did it anyway ?

Don't know why you came to that conclusion ... perhaps it's just that most people don't have the time or inclanation to post a comment against every band that you mention on here ... doesn't mean they don't like the music .. it's free speach n all ... some people don't seem to have the urge to post comments every day

Well, it's a question of priorities  and disposable income.

    Buying cds

You don't have to have BOUGHT the albums you vote for BUT generally it is a good idea to have heard them & like them or it would be strange to vote for them.

Have had lots & lots of entries now and a few albums are flying ahead + about 100 albums have only one vote - they won't make the chart unless they get another vote at least!

    keep 'em coming:

Just thinking back over the year and I'm not sure I bought or listened to anything new or released in the year (apart from Nicks latest) - I'm forever catching up :) (I did give your Laura Marling a spin though...)

    Festive 50

Just for the record RH's WAOCLTC reached 47 in 1976 in JP's Festive 50 and number one was Stairway to Heaven.
