After Roy says "please leave this world as clean as when you came" there's another verse underneath the final solo that's difficult to hear on the album; it's a little more clear in some live recordings but still hard to entirely make out ... here's what I'm able to make out: the only time you leaders need us is when ... .... we need you the way you ... not as far as ... And that's all I can make out. Anyone know what the lyrics to this verse is?
Welcome to stormcock! [The only time you leaders need us Is when you feed your ego We need you the way you lead us Like, not, as far as we know] This is taken from Roy's "The Passions Of Great Fortune" lyrics book.
On the HQ vinyl album inner sleeve didn't he write out the whole song, with little add-on comments, or is my ageing memory deceiving me? I still have it, but not looked at for a long time.
Yes - he stated that "Please leave this world as clean as when you came" is one of the greatest closing lines of any song ever, if I remember correctly. Not one of Roy's more modest moments but quite justified!
