Not too happy that this one is happening, a few of us were hoping that he'd return to the Tower of Song venue in Birmingham this year; as it's one of the best live venue's that I've seen Nick ( or anyone ) play at ... but alas he's playing at : Thursday 13th November 2014 : Hare & Hounds, Birmingham http://www.ents24.com/birmingham-events/hare-and-hounds/nick-harper/3810177
Hmmm I could possibly be a bit excited about this... Friday 17th October 2014: Edinburgh Sneaky Pete's (tix hopefully on sale from next week, according to the promoter Fake Frown) https://www.facebook.com/events/638954079515134/
More November... dunno much about this venue, Nick was at the Green Room last year Saturday 22nd November: Stockton on Tees ARC http://www.ents24.com/stockton-on-tees-events/arc-stockton-arts-centre/nick-harper/3821304
WICKERMAN! Acoustic tent, either Friday 25th or Saturday 26th July http://www.thewickermanfestival.co.uk/were-turning-up-the-tempo-as-more-acts-announced/ If you go, do make sure to check out Emily Smith, she is fabulous
My friend Miles and his partner Lotte run this pub in Stroud - good to see they're getting Nick to play there in November Wednesday 12 November - The Prince Albert, Stroud http://www.theprincealbertstroud.co.uk/ http://www.seetickets.com/event/nick-harper/the-prince-albert/791041
It's been a few years, but it's a return to Milngavie (pronounced Mull-guy, obviously haha) Friday 25 July - Milngavie Folk Club, Fraser Centre, Douglas Street, Milngavie G62 6PA http://tickets.jmsconcerts.co.uk/85-nick-harper-the-milngavie-folk-club-sat-25th-july-2014-730.html
Oh this looks interesting ... just down the road from me, the town where my boss lives and it's on me chuffing birthday ... Wednesday 26th November - The Crooked Billet, Henley-on-Thames, RG9 5PU http://www.thecrookedbillet.co.uk/whats-on/music-nights/
Good job this gig is actually on my birthday ... otherwise ( now I've sussed out how this venue works ) I probably wouldn't go !! It's a restaurant and so you have to book a table and you HAVE TO eat ... and buy a ticket for a tenner .... the restaurant is well known ( apparently ) in Henley as been one of the best fine dining establishments ... so it ain't cheap !!
The menu does look wonderful, but why perform here? Gigs - well, the travelling to and overnighting - are expensive enough without being 'forced' to eat at the same time. Is Nick going to be bounding across the tables at this venue? I'd hate to see my Moroccan spiced lamb rump, harissa & barley couscous spilling on the floor http://www.thecrookedbillet.co.uk/menus/a-la-carte/
Guess you go where the gigs are! It's quite odd that you definitely have to eat, and can't just have a drink at a table...
Well ... Odd ... but True !! From their website (http://www.thecrookedbillet.co.uk/whats-on/music-nights/) : "The way our music nights work is that you book a table in the restaurant & pay for whatever you eat & drink. There is no obligation to have a full 3 course meal, however guests are expected to eat. 100% of the music cover charge goes directly to the artist."
So is the table included when you purchase your ticket, or do you have to reserve the table separately? Do you get to sit at the table for the entire gig, or do you have to rotate? A gig is a gig I guess and why not play to different audiences? But doesn't it turn the artist and music into 'background music for diners'?
I guess that's what I'd worry about, but this happens a LOT in the States and the gigs/venues are still really good - usually dinner service is done way before the gig, hopefully this will be the same!
Erm ... sneaky !! Perhaps they'll force you to buy loads of crisps and nuts !?! Yeah apparently they like you to be there for 7:30, so you have time to eat before Nick starts at 8:45. Apparently they think Nick will do 45 mins, take a break then do another 45 mins .... but I warned them that 1.5 hours is a short gig for Nick and they said it's down to him if he want's to miss the break part ... here's hoping he does !!
Messrs. Harper and Gomm, back together again in Liverpool on 16 August? http://glasswerk.co.uk/concerts/gig...+Cobbler+s+Club-Bombed+Out+Church,+Liverpool/
A couple of new Northern dates .... not sure why he doesn't like playing at the Uni anymore in Manchester .... I used to go there just for the light show !!? Friday 24th October - The Ruby Lounge, 28-34 High Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester M4 1QB http://www.therubylounge.com/index.php/shows/nick-harper Saturday 25th October - Leaf on Bold Street, 65-67 Bold Street, Liverpool, L1 4EZ https://thisisleaf.co.uk/listings/#listing-25-10-14 ( not listed yet ) ; so see : http://www.ents24.com/liverpool-events/leaf-on-bold-street/nick-harper/3936121
Thanks Chris! I like the Ruby Lounge, it's a bit dive-y but in a good way and it's very central, right between the Northern Quarter and the Arndale. Super tempting. And the people who used to run the Academy 3 (aka Hop'n'Grape) aren't there anymore so maybe that's why the change? Shame, I loved it too!
