No it's not out yet but it's in the works. Lots of news to report of course, though everyone reading this will know it all already. I'll be trying to get this out early next week but we'll see... having a pretty busy time here with everything right now. Just wanted to let you know it's not dead
Great stuff Paul, don't know how you find the time. A quick question for you, is there to be a part 2 of Darren Crisp? I seem to remember it being mentioned around the time of part 1. all the best Barry
We did have the notion of getting Darren physically in the same room as me to do a part 2. In fact we've attempted a couple of times to meet up when he's been in the rough area where I live but it's been scuppered both times by external events. So I don't know. We'd both have to go back and listen to it again to remember what we talked about... but it'd be quite fun to catch up and find out about what he does now with tour management, what his work with Uri Geller was like, and so on...
It's out! See the front page for more info. I managed to keep this one down in length so that it would fit on a CD (I think there are people that still burn to CD for car listening etc). I have completely changed my method for the final mixing/mastering and also played with various settings while recording. I'd be grateful for any feedback regarding the audio quality, general volume level (is it too loud) and particularly my own voice. I've used some settings to make it similar to a radio voice - some compression etc - and I keep swaying between thinking that it sounds fine and thinking that my voice is way too loud. It's very hard to be objective about this sort of thing when it's your own voice you are hearing! Cheers Paul.
By the way, I didn't mention the Wire magazine. I have been to many newsagents both here in Hertford and in London, and have completely failed to find a copy. So I felt I couldn't really comment! Could be that I was looking too late and it had already disappeared from the shelves.
Well I didn't even bother looking in any shops - I bought mine via their website ( http://www.thewire.co.uk/issues/current/ ) - only cost a fiver, which I believe is a pound more than the price in the shops - but it would have cost me £1.50 to park in town !!
Thank you very much Chris. I don't know how I missed that option! I only saw subscriptions and having looked at the sample online issue realised that this probably isn't a magazine I need to subscribe to
I went to W.H. Smiths on Saturday, and no luck, why do magazines always have to be a month ahead? It just doesn't make sense, I couldn't buy a July edition of The Wire on the 2nd July because they have been cleared from the shelves to make way for the August edition!! :confused1: Anyway, I also ordered online and received it yesterday, a great interview and pictures. Had to do exactly the same with the Uncut magazine too, but that hasn't arrived yet, looking forward to hearing this podcast Paul, thanks..
I haven't got any feedback about the audio quality as yet but I decided to remaster the podcast this morning to take the excess compression off my voice and lower the level a bit. I think most music fans will listen to music based podcasts quite loud and I think this way the general "mix" is better. Please let me know if you experience any issues downloading the new version, particularly if you use iTunes or similar to grab it from the feed. I think I've done it the right way to make podcatchers pick up the new version from now on, but you never know Paul.
Paul-Cast & Crew It loaded perfectly on its own from your feed. Looking forward to listening! I also hope there isn't a limited supply of the "Legends DVD" 'cause I've not gotten around to ordering it yet. I definitely want one!
Long time no sleep, all. - apparently I have not been active on Stormcock since September 2009. Time flies like a bandit. Fruit flies like a banana. Thanks Paul for pointing out that it was my changed email addy that kept me in the dark all these months.... Nice to see some of the old names that I remember from way back at Roy'd 60th. Hope I can make it over for the 70th.... cheers...
it is indeed. in fact - I am coming to London for a family vacay from Aug 5 thru aug 9, which will most likely wet my whistle enough to come back solo in November....
Podcast no aspersions Took me a week to listen to, Paul. I was listening to my new download of "ONCE" and checking out the "Legends DVD" all that week. Got "Les Cousins" and BBC CDs today/Monday. "Loony" is now all I'm missing (besides half my brain!). Great stuff! I think Roy sounded so young in part because the original tape was sped up slightly and/or the mics were further away. Also loved Roy's early insight into how they needed to get Jimmy onto his feet before he really started rocking! I nearly fell out of my chair when I realized you were quoting my comments on the previous podcast. I forgot I was so lengthy and entertaining in my commentary! Can't wait for your NEXT podcast! However, in the interest of full disclosure, I did make a "generous donation" a year and a half ago!
Confession Time and a Suggestion! Hi Paul I have had Episode 33 on my iPod since it was published but forgot to listen till yesterday, when it accompanied me to and from work. Loved the Legends version of Me and My Woman and the Kitchen Cynics stuff. Keep up the good work. When that episode finished, my iPod seamlessly took me into Episode 15 (I think), which featured the peerless Dave Cochran, raconteur extraordinary. Any chance of getting him back to tell us a few more anecdotes and perhaps play us some of those tapes he's got in his archives? Cheers Bob
I have a provisional "yes" I'm going to do my best to get a podcast out this weekend too, since interest in RH is at the highest in (my) living memory...
@Paul - that would be great! It's just amazing at the moment - whoever is doing his PR needs a slap on the back! (In the nicest possible sense of that statement of course!). I don't really use Twitter that much (well, not properly) but after hearing all the comments that "Roy Harper" was trending I went in to have a look for myself. What a ground swell of support Roy is getting! Oh well, he's been our best kept secret for too long I suppose. Time to share the Roy...
Indeed. My mum texted me to say "Roy Harper is on the telly" on Monday morning. That's never happened before, and I doubt it will happen again! Then he's on 'Later', and then on R2 Mike Harding. Quite a few magazine articles/interviews too. This is just bizarre. Great, but Bizarre. I loved his 'Later' performance - very delicate. It looked like it could fall apart at any moment, but didn't. Great choice of song as well. +A
