If you weren't listening to R2 in the early hours of today, then you missed a treat.

Janice Long yet again had her finger on the pulse by having Exit Calm in for what transpired to be a just superb acoustic session.

I had shivers down my spine, particularly with the second song, the as yet unrecorded Alarms. You can hear that and the whole session for next week here:

Barnsley? Didn't know that. Knew they were from Leeds area. Only seen them once, when they did a Relentless Garage with The Twang. Know their manager and he naturally talks them up! Wouldn't mind seeing an acoustic show now after hearing this session.

Big respect for this band after last night's show at Hoxton Bar. Had spoken to Nicky (vocalist) earlier in the day and knew he was feeling crook with this viral cold thing that seems to be doing the rounds, but didn't realise he was so bad that at one point during the set he was literally doubled over in a coughing attack. Many other artists would have pulled the show. A bit croaky at times admittedly, but still, that voice - wow!

The song above which they have only played once live before, acoustically at their Barnsley gig on this tour, became the encore here. For me! God, can you imagine how chuffed I felt when just he and the guitarist Rob came back on and he said they were going to try it 'as there is a journalist in the house who really loves it after we did it on Janice Long's show'. He told me later he should have said for me by name. Wish he bloody had then I may not have had the people near me all turn and look at me after a very drunk and annoying bloke had earlier shouted out to half the room 'SHE'S A JOURNALIST!' Very embarrassed.

I am on a one woman mission to get them to do some one off acoustic shows. They have proved they can do both equally well.

The spacerock guitar sound they create just hits you like a tidal wave, and is equally a key point as much as Nicky's vocals.

    I love Barnsley!:)

    Lovely stuff!

Lovely stuff despite the Barnsley connection! Do you happen to know if Nick likes them?

They are not all from Barnsley! Rob, the guitarist, is from Middlesbrough.

Don't know if Nick has heard them; probably not. Sure Rob has heard of him though; one of his own heroes being John Martyn.

He's a superb guitarist, Rob. Guitarist magazine recently called him 'one of the most exciting young British players'.

    Glad to hear!

Not all the best tracks are on the album. This one for instance: Higher Learning - one of my favourites

Many people hearing them think they use keys and synths sometimes. What is amazing is the sound you hear from Exit Calm is created enirely by the guitars. :m2:

A little impromptu acoustic by Nicky and Rob, a few hours before the Pretty Green party last Friday

Funny reading that first post here from 2010, when never net them and knew little about.

Come on to 2013, written and reviewed them and interviewed a number of times and still think they are amazing. And, finally, with the release of The Rapture seem to be hitting the mark.

This I did with Nicky just prior to the present tour:

And if you're interested and in London. March 25 Nicky and guitarist Rob are doing a free acoustic show at the Phoenix Theatre, just off Charing Cross Road - and that will sound like this, more or less
