This was special, very special. In a DeBarra’s so crowded, to paraphrase Pat McCabe, “you couldn’t turn a sweet in your mouth”, Roy Harper served up a show for the ages. Fans travelled from as far afield as South Africa, continental Europe, Manchester and Kanturk for a rare performance by the indefatigable troubadour in the venue where his Mojo magazine “Hero” award sits quietly behind glass in the front bar. Cheers Steve, great review, however I have to disagree with his opinion of Me & My Woman, it was hardly "the only blemish on an otherwise perfect canvas" :confused1: It sounded great from where I was sitting!
Several... Several people also commented afterwards about the beautiful strength of his singing voice. No flies* on Roy! Andi *It means you are active, alert and clever. Implying that flies won't land on something that's moving, only things that are still or stagnant.
It did seem like an odd comment to me too. Either, the bloke just doesn't like that song, or he didn't want to look too gushing in praise.
Not sure where the Me and My Woman comments came from, especially as Roy gave a fairly lengthy introduction to what the song was about. I also disagree that he was wearing a cardigan, definitely a waistcoat
Perhaps the reviewer was doing an "andi" and reviewing the gig before it actually happened and just guessed at things ?!?
Ha! Ha! I did entitle it a preview of a review to avoid confusion and gave a copy to Tracy before the gig. As a template it comes out remarkably accurate I must say; especially as I penned it in the hotel surrounded by drunken revellers at two in the morning! To be only 5 feet away from Roy was exceptionally infectious like the Guinness-laden bar only 20 feet away! A:wink: https://www.facebook.com/events/291511610986901/
