Extraordinary evening. When I first saw the Moore Bros. (in my view Moore is definitely less - never cared much for CSNY), I thought for a horrible few minutes that Roy had cried off owing to some sort of illness or something - I'd only got back from holiday a few hours earlier, so was far from up to date with recent news... What an extraordinarily brave thing to do in playing Stormcock. Having missed the last gig in Clon, I was thrilled, but apprehensive at the same time; I'd forgotten the strain of supporting a support act (or even a Special Guest!) Overall, I thought the crowd was good and the reception great. Roy seemed to grow into the set after a slightly sketchy start and I thought that OMRARB was absolutely coruscating, despite it being my least favourite of the four songs (well, it is in pretty exalted company). His playing throughout was right up there and Matt was terrific as always. Part of my wanted to leave, in order to try to encapsulate the memories, but I'm glad I didn't. Joanna was superb, impossible to categorise with very obvious influences: Kate Bush, Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, Emmylou Harris, bits of Bjork and Enya, but what a voice and what a sound - not v familiar with her work, but thought the second and third tracks were astonishing - great playing and arrangements and you can see the Roy influence there too in the way she allows the songs to develop and expand into new areas. And the RAH is a GREAT place to listen to great music.
