Hideous! Of all Roy's albums the only sleeves I've liked are Flat baroque and berserk, HQ & Jugula.

Almost agree. FB&B and Jugula yes. But HQ is visually very odd; strong concept, though.
I would include Sophisticated Beggar too. Love the cartoon-Roy climbing to his guitar.

I was introduced to Roy via HQ, but we Americans knew it by the title of the hit single, and I think the photos and art were completely reworked. I seem to remember the Cricket photos and something about the game of Cricket. I loved the Song "The Game" and that kept Roy in my mind until I finally rediscovered him on the internet.

All my vinyl sleeves of Roy's albums are white, missing (FB&B), or ads for other artists on Chrysalis records.

BTW, I (Americans) refer to the inner sleeves as sleeves. I guess you mean the cover. I don't have a problem with Roy's face being on the cover, though there could always be more art. I first owned Valentine, still love the art and the back photo.

    The Enemy

thanks to Dave Burnham for the heads-up - you can hear "The Enemy" for the next 7 days at http://goo.gl/0FOCp0 - about 1hour 40 mins in !!

and NOT surprisingly it sounds MUCH better without Andi singing along to the guitar solos ( as he did in DeBarras on Sunday ) !!

Valentine's cover has a good concept but I think the illustration is not so good. On the original one Roy somehow reminds me of a cocker spaniel with tears in the eye. I think Roy never liked it that much too and he had the illustration reworked a couple of times. First during the late 80s / early 90s the new illustration featured a smiling confident (and worse, contemporary) Roy – oh dear... Later he got back to the original concept but with a new illustration. Recently he got back to the original. With all its faults it's still the one and only original. Some things are better left as they are.
