Andi, how did you get to go there? When i was akid my Gran's friend-down-the-road's son got posted to Aden for National Service - but subsequently, I thought, Yemen didn't much care for westerners. I have a great CD of Yemeni music. The trees look like something from a 1950's Dan Dare strip!

Was in North Yemen actually where they are/were a bit more tolerant of Westerners. The history of Yemen's recent history was definitley frontline East/ West thing at the time. The SAS were even in the Southern Omani border.

I was more alluding to their amazing ancient architecture built on rocks.

The trees in the preface are from those islands of bliss in the Indian Ocean. Nearest I got was The Seychelles and can still smell the pungent tropicality in my nose. Probably why Somerset Maughan extradited himself there?
